Project Update I September 2024

Hello everyone,

We’re excited to bring you the latest scoop on our new Operational Technology (OT) laptops.

Updated Schedule

As with most projects, we’ve hit a few of the usual bumps along the way, putting us slightly behind our original schedule. Nothing out of the ordinary—just part of the journey. Here’s the current game plan for non-HVDC laptops and software (We’re still working out the schedule for HVDC; stay tuned):

Alpha Testing

Sept 16 - Oct 7

Beta Testing

Oct 11 - Nov 29

Rollout & Training

Jan 6 - Mar 7

Testing, testing, 1-2-3

We’re making steady progress on testing. Here’s the latest:

  • Software Testing on Virtual Machines: We’re 90% done testing non-HVDC OT software. For the HVDC side, we’re currently testing at Thickwood SVS and gearing up for EATL next.
  • Alpha Testing: We’re in the thick of it. The project team is hard at work ensuring everything integrates and plays nicely together.
  • Beta Testing: If Alpha goes according to plan, end-user testing will kick off mid-October, and run through November. Testers have already received a placeholder calendar request for Oct. 9, where they’ll get all the deets about testing. We’ll collect feedback during testing to make any final tweaks before rolling out the laptops.

Rollout & Support

We’re targeting to start rolling out laptops in January. Expect hands-on training at field offices, along with user guides to help you get familiar with your new setup. We’re already working on those materials.

We’re also working with leaders and software owners to make sure help is available both during business hours and after hours, so you’re never left hanging.

Contractor Compliance

Vendors will be expected to use an ATCO-issued OT laptop to connect to OT devices. We’re currently collaborating with Compliance Governance, Procurement, Contract Administration, and Project Execution teams to iron out the details. Once sorted, we’ll begin planning vendor engagements and rollout.

Stay tuned for more updates, and as always, feel free to reach out with any questions.

Best Regards,

Will Glenn
