A Big Day for Oklahoma Transit on Capitol Hill
OkTA leaders joined transit partners from across the country for a full day of federal advocacy on Capitol Hill, meeting with Rep. Stephanie Bice and Rep. Frank Lucas to discuss the priorities shaping mobility in Oklahoma. These conversations focused on the essential role public transit plays in connecting Oklahomans to work, healthcare, education, and economic opportunity — and the federal support needed to keep those systems strong.
During the meetings, OkTA highlighted the realities facing urban, rural, and tribal providers across the state, including workforce challenges, capital needs, long‑term fleet replacement planning, and the importance of predictable federal funding. With the Surface Transportation Reauthorization and other key legislation on the horizon, these discussions offered a timely opportunity to ensure Oklahoma’s transit systems are represented in national policy conversations.
The day proved highly beneficial, giving Oklahoma’s transit leaders the chance to share on‑the‑ground perspectives, reinforce the value of coordinated mobility, and emphasize the importance of continued investment in safe, reliable transportation.
