Registration Now Open for Transition Law Day - Limited Space Available!

Parents and Guardians of Students with Disabilities...

Have you and your student discussed what they want to do after graduation? If your student is aged 14-21 and has an IEP or 504 plan, your student's school and vocational rehabilitation agencies can help them prepare for adulthood.

Join Disability Rights NJ for Transition Law Day to be held April 20, 2024 at the Hyatt Regency New Brunswick, from 10am to 3pm. Students will learn about their rights when transitioning from high school into adulthood. There is no cost to attend.

Our Transition Team lawyers and advocates will be presenting an informational session in the morning on Transition Services, VR Services, and Self-Advocacy. Following lunch provided, attendees have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with the Transition Team to discuss specific questions and concerns related to their own transition planning. There are a limited number of individual sessions available and you must register in advance through the link below.

Spots are available on a first come, first served basis. Others will be waitlisted. Priority will be given to students and families over professionals seeking information for their clients. We reserve the right to remove or reschedule reservations to accommodate students and families in need of this service.

Medicaid Renewals: Lessons Learned and Five Helpful Solutions

During the Public Health Emergency we know as the COVID-19 Pandemic, individuals receiving Medicaid could not be terminated between March 2020 and April 2023, even if their circumstances changed, such as additional income or higher resources. Beginning in April 2023, the state Medicaid agency began a year-long process of Medicaid renewals for more than 2 million Medicaid beneficiaries, and for the first time since the beginning of the Public Health Emergency, people who were no longer eligible were terminated.

As soon as this began Disability Rights NJ was there, representing clients who were threatened with Medicaid termination, helping them untangle their individual Medicaid renewal situations and working to ensure continued Medicaid coverage. Now halfway through the renewal year, many lessons have been learned that we share with you in this helpful webinar.

SHARE YOUR OPINION

Do you have lived experience with transition planning and services? Please share your story.

Once a year, the State Rehabilitation Council (SRC)  and the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRS) host public forums to provide information on available services for individuals with disabilities and receive input from the community. This year, there are three forums that will be held on the following dates and times:

Tuesday, April 30th, 2024, at 6:30 pm

Wednesday, May 1st, 2024, at 3:00 pm

Monday, May 6, 2024, at 10:00 am.

If you plan on attending multiple forums, please register for each individually. The public forum registration is now open and closes on April 23rd, 2024.

To attend these forums please click on the link below and register. The forums will be virtual so you must register to attend.

Your voice is extremely important to both the SRC and DVRS and will help to shape program delivery and policy to ensure that people with disabilities receive rehabilitation services that result in employment.

They are particularly interested in hearing from people with disabilities, family members of people with disabilities, educators, and others about their lived experience with transition planning and/or services. They want to learn about the issues, concerns, strengths, and suggestions you may have about transition from school to work in our state generally, and as it pertains to DVRS specifically.
