Transition Prayer Survey

SURVEY DEADLINE: Wednesday, November 26

On Sunday, November 2’s session of The Bridge, Rev. Dianne guided an excited group of prayer enthusiasts through the process of how one develops a collect. A collect is a brief prayer that collects several ideas succinctly in a general format. Though not a common word these days, it’s just the noun version of the verb to collect. Some also suggest that it is a prayer that we say as a collective. The goal of the exercise in this particular time and space for St. Barnabas was to inspire the group of pray-ers to develop a collect during this time of transition as we prepare to seek and call our next Rector.

And this group delivered! We have a collection (pun intended) of three collects that were submitted by those in attendance at The Bridge on November 2.

“So...what’s that got to do with me?” you may be asking. Our churchgoers get to discern and decide which one of these collects best suits St. Barnabas during this period of transition!*

Please read the collects in the survey found by clicking the button below. This prayer will be spoken aloud by the congregation during services, events, and meetings, and it will be printed in materials that the Profile and Search committees utilize during their work together throughout this process. Take some time to discern which of these you feel is best suited for us to lift up collectively during this time. You may find it helpful to pray these collects both silently and aloud to help you in your process. Then, please designate each prayer in order of preference with 1 being your top choice, 2 being your second choice, and 3 being your last choice.

If you need assistance with this survey, someone will be available in the Parlor during coffee hours and The Bridge on Sunday, November 16 to help.

Thank you for taking the time to share your opinions during this time in the life of our church. Let us continue to give thanks to God for where we have been, and look forward with anticipation and gratitude for where we are going!

*Please note that the collect selected by the majority may go through a final edit with the writer and Rev. Dianne.
