Transition Updates

December 2020
WHAT'S NEW
The Director of OSEP Visits with the SCTN
In December, the SCTN had our second annual meeting with who we call "The Powerhouse of 20!" The Powerhouse of 20 is the network of education specialists from the 20 Education Service Centers (ESCs) across the state that support districts and charters with transition. Although we weren't able to meet face-to-face this year, we were able to capture a great group picture (see below).

For the second year in a row, we had an opportunity to visit with Laurie VanderPloeg, the Director for the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) in Washington D.C. In addition to sharing her priorities for special education in the United States, we also had an opportunity to share success stories about transition in Texas. She was very hopeful about our efforts to support transition outcomes from early to exit with a focus on self-determination skills for students. We look forward to sharing more transition successes across the state, so please contact us if you have a great story for us to share. We wish everyone a wonderful break and we will see you in 2021!

National Technical Assistance Center on Transition (NTACT) Changes
OSEP and the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) recently announced the funding of the National Technical Assistance Center on Transition for Students and Youth with Disabilities which will now be known as NTACT: the Collaborative (NTACT: C). "The Collaborative" reflects the idea that NTACT: C is THE place for education, vocational rehabilitation, other professionals, and families to go for resources and guidance regarding the transition from school and youth programs for individuals with disabilities to successful adult living. For more information, check out the latest OSEP newsletter by clicking here.

NTACT has also recently released several new transition-focused resources which you can access by clicking on the links below:
