2019-2020 Parish Theme:
Live by the Spirit, Walk by the Spirit
Transition to High School Night - Thursday, November 14th at 7:00 p.m.

Although the 2019-2020 school year just started, our 8 th graders are likely already thinking ahead to high school! We know that Holy Cross Academy graduates attend a variety of different private and public schools in our area. We are excited to work collaboratively with our students, parents, and faculty in finding the right fit for our graduates, whether that is a Catholic, independent, or public institution.

Holy Cross Academy will host a Transition to High School Night on Thursday, November 14, at 7:00 p.m. This event is open to all HCA parents and students. Please mark your calendar now!

The event will begin in Fr. Brisson Hall at 7:00 with a presentation from Ms. Melissa Yakabouski, director of undergraduate admissions at Mary Washington University. Ms. Yakabouski will talk about what college admission officers are looking for when they review a student’s high school transcript and records. She will also speak about how families can work to find a college or university that is the best match for each child. I think this will be important information for parents to know as they look for the high school that best meets their child’s needs and connects them with their future goals.

By 7:30, parents and students will make their way to classrooms to meet with representatives from a number of local private and public schools. There will be three 20-minute sessions that families can attend to learn more about the high school options available in our region.

We have already confirmed visits with representatives from:

Commonwealth Governor's School
Fredericksburg Academy
Mountain View High School / International Baccalaureate Program
St. John Paul the Great High School
St. Margaret's
St. Michael the Archangel High School
Summit School
Woodberry Forest

We have some pending RSVPs for local schools. If you are interested in a school that is not yet participating, please contact Dr. Fry at sfry@holycrossweb.com to ensure that the school receives an invitation.
