Transitions Update From Your Vestry at COHS

Dear Friends,


What a wonderful celebration of Rev. Kathy’s ministry June 11. Blessings and best wishes to Rev. Kathy and Marc as they prepare for the next chapter in their lives. Many thanks to all who made Sunday possible, especially our hospitality team who hosted and fed the multitude of parishioners, friends, and guests.


In this week’s update we have information on the next two committees that will be formed to do the important work of transition here at Church of the Holy Spirit. Parish Profile and Search committees are chosen to represent major constituencies within a parish community. They usually work with a trained diocesan consultant, who assists them with some of the technical aspects of the search process. 


Here are our next steps:


  • Search/Discernment Consultant - Vestry has approved hiring the Rev. Barbara Abbott, a Search/Discernment Consultant that will facilitate the search for a new rector with us. She will serve as a trainer/facilitator for the parish profile and search committees as well as guide vestry and other parish leaders in the transition process.


  • Parish Profile Committee - The Parish profile committee is the committee that will be given the initial task of defining who the parish is and what kind of leadership they need. This is done by prayerfully gathering and harvesting information from the keep stakeholders – parishioners. They work with the vestry in respect to using some of the vision type work the vestry would have been doing over the years to ensure that is incorporated. They look at where we have been (history), where we are now (liturgically, financially, spiritually etc.) and where God might be calling us next (future, vision, growth). This information forms and creates the Parish Profile that will be published. Click the button below to view three recent parish profile examples.

  • Search Committee - A group charged with identifying candidates for the position of rector. It is often the responsibility of the search committee to review applications, supporting documents, and references; to interview applicants; and to recommend one "finalist" to the vestry charged with final responsibility for the selection or appointment.
