Moving Day

Introducing our First Phase Transition Homes

Last Saturday was moving day at the Hogar. After careful planning from leadership, caregivers, and the psychology team in Honduras, our children moved into different family-style hogares based on age. The new housing structure groups together children in seventh grade and below, 8th and 9th grade, and high school.

The children falling into the older age brackets now live in First Phase Transition Homes. The goal of this new housing setup is to provide our older children with more opportunities for independence. Madrinas and padrinos now have specific goals to focus on with the children under their care, dependent on their age, which for older dependents includes money management and the use of public transportation.

Though it was a big change, everyone is excited for this new chapter in Amigos, which has an increased focus on preparing the growing number of young adults to live outside the Hogar. Despite the huge undertaking of most staff and children changing houses, "move day" was a success, and all the children and caregivers are adjusting well to their new homes.
