As you are aware, the goal of Vision Zero is to bring traffic fatalities to zero by the year 2024, as one death is one too many on our streets. The New York City Council and the administration of Mayor Bill De Blasio remain committed to make this vision a reality.

Please join me and my colleagues in government at two Vision Zero related tomorrow: 
 
1-Press Conference at City Hall to mark latest progress on Vision Zero: hearing of 22 related pieces of legislation to help strengthen Mayor Bill de Blasio's action planCome out and show your support for safer streets at a rally on the steps of City Hall! Tomorrow we will take another step toward achieving Vision Zero through the discussion of a large package of bills. We will celebrate this step and keep the momentum going for Vision Zero!

2- An oversight hearing of the NYC Council Transportation Committee on a package of legislation aimed at achieving the City's Vision Zero initiative on Thursday, April 30th at 1:00pm at City Hall- Council Chambers. 

This is your opportunity to provide feedback and official testimony before the NYC Council Transportation Committee regarding the 22 bills up for discussion. The following pieces of legislation will be under review:

Res. No. 6
Resolution calling upon the New York State Legislature to amend the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law to increase the criminal penalty for reckless driving when serious physical injury or death of a person results from the reckless driving.

 

Res. No. 51
Resolution calling on the New York State Legislature to remedy several deficiencies in the law regarding leaving the scene of an accident.

Resolution calling upon the New York State Legislature to pass, and the Governor to sign, legislation that would lower New York City's speed limit.

Resolution calling upon the New York State Legislature to pass, and the Governor to sign, legislation increasing the penalty for driving on the sidewalk.
