BridgeWork on a the new Christina River crossing to start soon
According to the News Journal, "A 345-foot wooden bridge across the Christina River is set to break ground. The $18.5 million project includes the arched crossing just east of I-95, a smaller bridge across Little Mill Creek leading to the Wilmington Riverfront and 2,300-foot boardwalk across marshland to link the two. To the south, it will connect with a 1.4-mile path opened in 2014, which leads to another trail system that stretches to Old New Castle. The bridge is the last link of a system that has been built gradually and creates a nearly uninterrupted pathway between Wilmington and New Castle. The opening of the span is planned for late 2018."  To learn more, visit www.delawareonline.com/story/news/traffic/2016/10/03/bridge-open-unused-bikeways/91238856.

SafetyToolsTwo New Tools for Improving Road Safety Reporting
The U.S. Department of Transportation has developed two tools to help states: a national definition for serious injuries and State Serious Injury Conversion Tables. In the past, state transportation departments have used varying definitions to report serious injuries. This has led to inconsistent reporting which resulted in poor data quality. Poor data can lead to ineffective countermeasures and that can lead to lost lives. Getting the best crash countermeasures in place requires getting the most accurate and consistent data available. With that in mind, U.S. DOT developed a standardized definition for reporting serious injuries to the federal government based upon the Model Minimum Uniform Crash Criteria (MMUCC), which can be found at www.mmucc.us. States are required to be compliant with the new serious injury definition by April 15, 2019.
