2025 Safe Streets Summit

Nominations for the Safe Streets Awards also close this week this Friday! E-Bicycle and E-Scooter Safety Events

The TPA is hosting two safety events in Palm Beach County to promote safe e-bicycling and e-scootering. These events will focus on the shift to electric bikes and scooters, highlighting the unique safety considerations for these transportation modes. TPA Transportation Alternatives (TA) Program


Applications for the Palm Beach TPA's Transportation Alternatives (TA) Program are now open. This program, in partnership with FDOT, allocates approximately $5.1M annually to support non-motorized infrastructure projects. The application window is open through February 14. Draft 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan

The Draft 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) is available for review. The LRTP is updated every five years and serves as the TPA’s 25-year vision for Palm Beach County's transportation future. Call for Best Complete Streets Policies


The National Complete Streets Coalition, a program by Smart Growth America, is gathering policies for its 2025 Best Complete Streets Policies report, highlighting communities improving street safety and equity. Communities with new policies from 2023-2024 are encouraged to submit them by January 17. The 2025 report will evaluate and rank policies from this period. Applications are now open for the 2025 Champions Institute, a program by Smart Growth America that supports emerging leaders in creating safer, more equitable transportation systems. The Institute offers training, mentorship, and tools to advocate for policies that improve community mobility and safety. The deadline to apply is January 17.

The Palm Beach TPA is excited to announce its Gold Level Bicycle Friendly Business designation! The Bicycle Friendly America (BFA) program provides communities, businesses, and universities with assistance in building more bicycle-friendly places. The deadline to apply is June 25.

Funding & Grant Opportunities

Shared Use Nonmotorized (SUN) Trail Program is for the development of a statewide system of interconnected high-priority, paved, non-motorized multi-use trail / two-directional Shared Use Path (SUP) within the SUN Trail network for bicyclists and pedestrians, physically separated from vehicular traffic. The deadline to apply is December 19.

Road to Zero Community Traffic Safety Grant

Applications are now open for the Road to Zero Community Traffic Safety Grants, funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). These 12-month grants support U.S. organizations working on innovative strategies to reduce roadway deaths and serious injuries. The deadline to apply is January 17.


Promoting Resilient Operations for Transformative, Efficient, and Cost-Saving Transportation (PROTECT) Discretionary Grant Program aims to strengthen our roads and public transportation systems by providing funding to enhance their resilience against natural disasters and climate change. Over five years, it will allocate $1.4 billion for projects that improve the safety and durability of public transit systems. The deadline to apply is February 24.


Community Changes Grant

The Community Change Grant program, which supports programs and projects that advance walkability. Grants are awarded to innovative and inclusive initiatives that create tangible opportunities for walking and movement within communities. Applications open December 16.


Safe Routes to School Grant

Applications are now open for the FDOT Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program, a statewide effort to help children walk and bike to school safely. SRTS grants help fund roadway improvement projects near schools. The deadline to apply is January 31.

DOT Navigator helps communities understand the best ways to apply for grants and plan for and deliver transformative infrastructure projects and services.


U.S. DOT’s Equity website provides plans and resources for delivering a more equitable transportation system.


Target Zero Resources: Target Zero was established in the Strategic Highway Safety Plan to provide a framework for how Florida’s communities work to achieve the national vision of zero fatalities and serious injuries.


Safe Mobility Coalition Resources: Whether you are an older adult, family member caregiver, aging service provider, or safety advocate, you will find helpful educational materials and information to help improve the safety, access, and mobility of Florida's aging road users.


Electric Bicycle (E-Bike) Resources: The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is advancing research on e-bikes to better understand trends and impacts, and how jurisdictions around the country are managing them.


E-Scooter Safety Toolbox: A resource guide, informed by and developed as part of a Behavioral Traffic Safety Cooperative Research Project, that offers concise, evidence-based recommendations to help state and local agencies deliver e-scooter safety programs.
