National Bike Month


National Bike Month is celebrated every May, promoting the many benefits of bicycling and inspiring more people to give it a try. Whether it’s for fitness, commuting, or recreation, National Bike Month highlights how biking can positively impact both individuals and communities. May 12 - 16 is Bike to Work Week and May 16 is Bike to Work Day. Learn more about ways to get involved at BikeLeague.org/Events/Bike-Month.

PortMiami Mobile Tour


Thank you to Miami Dade TPO and PortMiami for their warm hospitality in hosting the TPA Board Members, Port of Palm Beach Commissioner Deandre Poole, Palm Beach County Commissioner Marci Woodward, TPA Executive Director Valerie Neilson, and Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council Executive Director Tom Lanahan. The day provided insights into PortMiami's initiatives to improve transportation in freight and tourism, as well as promote regional cooperation and economic growth.

CoMotion Miami 2025


Our Executive Director, Valerie Neilson, was a speaker on the Building the Future Together: Evolving Partnerships in Micromobility panel at CoMotion MIAMI last month. She joined industry leaders to discuss the future of mobility and collaboration across sectors.

National Bike & Roll to School Day


National Bike & Roll to School Day was last Wednesday, May 7. In total, 14 schools in Palm Beach County organized events to celebrate and encourage students to bike and roll to school. This annual event celebrates active transportation, promotes safety, and encourages students to choose healthy ways to get to school. A big thank you to all the schools that supported and inspired student participation.

City of Boca Raton Bike Rodeo


The TPA joined the City of Boca Raton for their inaugural Bike Rodeo to celebrate National Bike Month! Staff shared safety tips while young cyclists learned new skills, were fitted for helmets, enjoyed fun activities, and connected with their community.

Miami-Dade TPO 2025 Bike-Friendly Workshop


Palm Beach TPA participated in the Miami Dade TPO’s 2025 Bike-Friendly Workshop and Brian Ruscher, TPA Deputy Director of Multimodal, presented as part of an expert panel discussion to educate participants on bicycle safety. Attendees including businesses, universities, and municipalities who also explored ways to earn Bicycle Friendly Community, Business, or University designations from the League of American Bicyclists and collaborated on strategies to improve biking infrastructure and access.

Join the TPA in achieving a bicycle friendly designation! The Bicycle Friendly America (BFA) program provides communities, businesses, and universities with assistance in building more bicycle-friendly places. The deadline to apply for the program:

Vision Zero Action Plan Workshop


Join the TPA for a workshop on June 5 to participate in the agency's 2025 Vision Zero Action Plan Update. At this workshop, local stakeholders will receive an update on working agency efforts towards Vision Zero, new public engagement tools, and share updates on local progress towards Vision Zero. In-person attendance is strongly encouraged; virtual participation options will be provided.

Transit-Oriented Communities Workshop


Join the TPA for a workshop on the existing policies surrounding Transit-Oriented Communities (TOC) in Palm Beach County on June 6. The TPA will provide updates on TOC work being performed countywide and hear from policy experts from around the state to better understand the decisions around development and Transit. In-person attendance is strongly encouraged; virtual participation options will be provided.

Funding & Grant Opportunities

USDOT Safe Streets and Roads for All Planning and Demonstration Grants are used to develop, complete, or supplement an Action Plan, as well as carry out demonstration activities that inform an Action Plan. The deadline to apply is June 26.


USDOT Safe Streets for All Implementation Grants provide Federal funds to implement projects and strategies identified in an Action Plan to address a roadway safety problem. Eligible projects and strategies can be infrastructural, behavioral, and/or operational activities. The deadline to apply is June 26.

DOT Navigator helps communities understand the best ways to apply for grants and plan for and deliver transformative infrastructure projects and services.


Target Zero Resources: Target Zero was established in the Strategic Highway Safety Plan to provide a framework for how Florida’s communities work to achieve the national vision of zero fatalities and serious injuries.


Safe Mobility Coalition Resources: Whether you are an older adult, family member caregiver, aging service provider, or safety advocate, you will find helpful educational materials and information to help improve the safety, access, and mobility of Florida's aging road users.


Electric Bicycle (E-Bike) Resources: The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is advancing research on e-bikes to better understand trends and impacts, and how jurisdictions around the country are managing them.


E-Scooter Safety Toolbox: A resource guide, informed by and developed as part of a Behavioral Traffic Safety Cooperative Research Project, that offers concise, evidence-based recommendations to help state and local agencies deliver e-scooter safety programs.


Best Workplaces for Commuters: A resource guide that provides detailed summaries of benefits for employers participating in the Best Workplaces for Commuters program.
