Southern Blvd Bridge Replacement


On September 1, the new bascule bridge for the Southern Boulevard (SR 80) Bridge Replacement Project opened to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The SR 80 Bridge Replacement Project includes replacing the existing bascule (draw) bridge and tide relief bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway and Lake Worth Lagoon between the City of West Palm Beach and the Town of Palm Beach. New decorative lighting, pedestrian features, traffic signals, signage and drainage are included. The new bridge has a vertical clearance of 21 feet in the closed position with a 125-foot navigable channel. 

New Vision Zero Resolution

Congratulations to the Town of Juno Beach for passing a Vision Zero Resolution! Vision Zero starts with the ethical belief that all people have the right to move safely in their communities. We are excited to see Juno Beach make even more strides towards bringing the number of traffic-related deaths and serious injuries to zero.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law established the new Reconnecting Communities Pilot (RCP) discretionary grant program, funded with $1 billion over the next five years. The deadline for applications is 11:59 p.m. on October 13.

Park(ing) Day

Park(ing) Day is celebrated across the world each year by temporarily repurposing parking spaces and converting them into parks and social spaces. This effort helps to advocate for safer, greener and more equitable streets and places for people. The TPA, with the West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority (DDA), is hosting an event outside the TPA office on Friday, September 16, from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. where you can learn about the Air, Brakes and Chain Quick Check, pickup safety resources and more!

2022 - 2023 Florida League of Cities Committee Representation

Three TPA Governing Board members have been selected for this year’s Florida League of Cities Intergovernmental Relations Committee! Congratulations to Committee Chair and Village of Royal Palm Beach Councilman Jeff Hmara, Committee Vice Chair and City of Belle Glade Mayor Steve Wilson and At-Large Member and City of Boca Raton Councilmember Yvette Drucker. TPA Technical Advisory Committee member Mayor O’Connor of Westlake has also been selected to join the committee. TPA Governing Board Vice Chair, Palm Beach Gardens Mayor Chelsea Reed also holds a position on the Land Use & Economic Development Committee.

National Complete Streets Champions Institute

Congratulations to City of West Palm Beach Commissioner and TPA Board Member Christy Fox for being selected to participate in the 2022 – 2023 class of the Active People, Healthy Nation Champions Institute. Commissioner Fox is the only elected official represented from Florida. Previously City of Palm Beach Gardens Mayor Chelsea Reed and City of Boca Raton Councilmember Andy Thomson participated in this program.
