Draft Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) FY 24-28 Public Comment Period Open | |
As one of the TPA’s most important documents, the TIP identifies projects for maintaining and improving the transportation system funded by Federal, State and local sources to assist local governments with their transportation planning efforts. The Draft Fiscal Year 2024-2028 TIP is open for public review. The document will be updated periodically until final adoption at the June 15, 2023 Governing Board meeting. | |

SFRTA Receives $71.7 Million in Federal Grant to Replace Vehicles
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) as one of six recipients to be awarded a federal grant to replace aging passenger railcars, as part of a program to improve reliability, safety and accessibility on the nation’s rail transit systems. Funded by the President's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the approximately $703 million in project selections represents first-time funding from the new Rail Vehicle Replacement Program, which was created to improve safety, service, and the customer experience on subways, commuter rail, and light rail systems. Supported by the TPA, this grant will fund the replacement of 24 rail vehicles (32% of its fleet).

Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) established a SS4A discretionary grant program with $5 billion in appropriated funds over 5 years. The SS4A FY 2023 grant application window is now open through July 10, 2023 to fund regional, local and tribal initiatives to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries.

Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary (CFI) Grant Program
The CFI Program is a new competitive grant program created by President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to strategically deploy publicly accessible electric vehicle charging and alternative fueling infrastructure in the places people live and work – urban and rural areas alike. The deadline to apply is May 30.

Promoting Resilient Operations for Transformative, Efficient, and Cost-Saving Transportation (PROTECT) Discretionary Grant Program
The vision of the PROTECT Discretionary Grant Program is to fund projects that address the climate crisis by improving the resilience of the surface transportation system, including highways, public transportation, ports, and intercity passenger rail. Applications are due August 18, 2023.

Rural Opportunities to Use Transportation for Economic Success (ROUTES) is an initiative to address disparities in rural transportation infrastructure by developing user-friendly tools and information, aggregating DOT resources, and providing technical assistance. The ROUTES Initiative aims to ensure rural transportation infrastructure’s unique challenges are considered in order to meet priority transportation goals of safety, mobility, and economic competitiveness.
