Your new life as a parent, your work as a birth worker, it all involves sharing your heart. Engaging the heart means going right past the fear (and the urge to run, fight, or withdraw). Your life gets richer beyond belief.
Engaging a baby is another level of commitment. Baby tucks the chin and dives right into the pelvis, ready for the adventure of birth! Aiming the crown of the head first makes the baby seem smaller than other angles of the head. This is called flexion. Now baby is ready for when labor contractions begin on their own.
Spinning Babies has many tips to help a baby engage. Equally important is the ability for the birth professional to identify whether or not the baby is engaged. For women going for a VBAC, a vaginal birth after a previous cesarean, knowing themselves how to tell if baby is helpfully engaged might mean the dream of a vaginal birth comes true.

Lying Sideways?
Spinning Babies helps parents experience the birth they desire.
When you have your heart set on a natural birth hearing that baby is lying sideways can be a shock. So when it is normal for baby to lie sideways and when shall we expect baby to be head down?
Baby's position is a reflection of the space available in the womb.
When the fetus is small in comparison to the amount of fluid surrounding baby then baby may lie sideways in the womb or at a diagonal. Somewhere around 26 weeks, baby is big enough for gravity to pull baby's heavier head downward.
If there is room for gravity to get it's way, baby's head will swing down over the pelvis. Feet kick towards the top of the uterus. Scroll down for tips.

Spinning Babies offers workshops designed for your group of professionals.
Lisbon, Portugal is receiving
the full 2-day Spinning Babies Workshop developed by Jennifer Walker. The 2-day Spinning Babies Workshop allows a deeper integration of the paradigm and practice. Covering the usual one-day material over two days, plus time for bonus techniques and tips, is particularly nice when translation is required.
Rachel Shapiro is currently
training all the midwives in Shaare Zedek Medical Center Hospital - that's 90! The training will be geared towards the needs of the provider in Labor and Delivery. This is a private class for the hospital. Other hospitals are also served by Spinning Babies Approved Trainers: Lorenza Holt, Tammy Ryan, Ginny Phang and Marya Molette, Jennifer Walker, as well as Gail have done specific trainings for hospitals privately. We are now asking for a report on the data before and after on cesarean rates as a collaboration for staff training.
Gail Tully and Debra McLaughlin are joining talents to bring an advanced Spinning Babies to Isabelle Karimov's community of Baby Spinners in Birmingham. Everyone who has already attended a Spinning Babies Workshop is welcome. Jennifer Walker and Gail Tully have given Spinning Babies Workshops in the UK and Europe where these providers are coming from. Jennifer will be back to Birminghan
