1000 Books Before Kindergarten Reading Challenge
Families with young children, infants through preschool, are encouraged to register their children for the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Reading Challenge! Every child participating in the program will receive a free picture book as a registration prize. At 100 books and 500 books logged, children will select a book from the library collection to have their name designated on a bookplate commemorating their achievement. At 1000 books, they'll be designated a Royal Reader, have their names added to our Golden Scroll, and be awarded another book.

Trapped in WCDPL's History: A Genealogy Virtual Escape Room
You've gotten trapped in the library's Local History Archive and must solve a series of genealogy puzzles to get out. Are you up to the task?

This event takes the popular escape room concept and adapts it to a virtual format through Google Forms and the use of the library's online genealogy resources. To participate, visit our Facebook page at 5:00 pm on Monday, May 10 when the Google Form goes live. You'll have until the following Monday, May 17 at 9:00 am to find all of the answers and escape our Local History Archive.

No registration is required. Follow our Facebook page and other social media to participate!

Virtual Volunteens Needed
The Wood County District Public Library Children’s Place is relaunching its Virtual Volunteen program for the 2021 Summer Read Program, “Tails and Tales.” Youth ages 11 and older are encouraged to sign up to be a Virtual Volunteen through WCDPL’s website at wcdpl.org/teens-can-volunteen-wcdpl.

The Virtual Volunteen program allows teen and preteen helpers to remain connected with each other and their library while remaining safe and physically distant. Signing up to be a Virtual Volunteen gains students access to a wide variety of Google Meet programs hosted by WCDPL on topics like book talks, writing workshops, knitting demonstrations, and more, directed by their interests. Virtual Volunteens will also be assisting the library in projects as part of the upcoming Summer Reading Program “Tails and Tales,” including helping with some outdoor, in-person programing as students are comfortable doing.

For more information, visit wcdpl.org/teens-can-volunteen-wcdpl or call (419) 352-8253.
