Myth:
Poverty has little lasting impact on children
Fact: Poverty is the single greatest threat to children's well-being. Poverty can impede children's ability to learn and contribute to social, emotional, and behavioral problems. It can also contribute to poor physical and mental health, and poor self-esteem. Risks are greatest for children who experience poverty when they are young and/or experience deep and persistent poverty. Through early interventions and support services, there is hope that children will overcome the impacts of poverty, and will grow into resilient individuals who prosper.
An important part of Pro Action's work is to build knowledge and understanding of the causes and conditions of poverty. Visit our
