Good afternoon

Travel lanes will shift to the right tonight at the I-95 North/Route 4 North merge in Warwick. This will allow us to provide more room to merge and decrease congestion through this corridor. Click here to learn more.

With construction season underway, we want to remind all motorists that next week is Work Zone Awareness Week. When driving through our work zones, please remember that the workers and safety personnel have families who want them home safely every night. Thank you for moving slowly through our work zones.

Route 146 Reconstruction Project, Lincoln/North Smithfield

Last night, we shifted traffic on Route 146 South to provide one lane southbound on the new flyover bridge at the Sayles Hill Road intersection. The other southbound lane remains at ground level and the traffic signal has been adjusted to ensure the intersection, which is currently narrowed with lane splits through the end of the year, functions at maximum efficiency. This shift will allow for construction of the final phase of the new flyover which when completed will allow two lanes of traffic in each direction.

Next week, road construction will involve the closures of Exit 10 (Route 146A) off Route 146 South, and Route 146A South, from Dowling Village Boulevard to Route 146, Tuesday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., as well as the west side of Sayles Hill Road, from Route 146 to Iron Mine Hill Road, Monday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists can also anticipate alternating lane closures on both directions of Route 146, from Route 116 to Exit 10 (Route 146A), Monday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., and from Exit 10 (Route 146A) to the Massachusetts line, Monday-Saturday (April 26) from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Left turns also will be prohibited from Route 146 North and South at Sayles Hill Road for bridge construction, Monday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Please follow signed detours during all closures.

Motorists can anticipate alternating one-way traffic with frequent vehicle access in/out of the work zone, driveways/walkways blocked and street parking restricted on School Street, from Old River Road to Main Street in Albion, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please note: the use of steel plates may be necessary to stabilize and allow traffic to keep moving over the roadways during construction.

Tower Hill Road Bridge and Paving, North/South Kingstown

Tomorrow morning by 6 a.m., we are scheduled to open a new ramp from Route 138 West to Route 1 South. It will be a left-hand exit rather than the current right-hand exit, which will be eliminated. Expect alternating lane closures on Route 1 (Tower Hill Road), from Shermantown Road to Route 4, and/or temporary ramp closures at the Routes 1/138 interchange, Monday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Crews also will prep for the bridge slides with similar operations behind barrier, Monday-Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Advanced utility work for the existing gas line is scheduled from Saturday, April 26 at 7 a.m. through Sunday, April 27 at 3 a.m. Two travel lanes will remain open on Routes 1 North and South through the project area, but the ramps from Route 1 South to Route 138 East, and Route 138 East to Route 1 North, will need to be closed. In accordance with CRMC guidelines, barges are being used to collect construction debris. Any debris that enters the water will be removed. Barges will then be towed to land for transfer into trucks for offsite disposal. Over the next several weeks, work will progress from the shoreline areas on both sides of the bridge, toward the center of the river. Demolition work will take place weekdays only from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. No work is currently planned after 4 p.m. to avoid any disruptive noise during evening hours.
