PANAMA EARTHQUAKE:
Two powerful 7.7 and 6.6 magnitude earthquakes and a series of aftershocks hit Panama on Oct. 9. According to a statement from the Panama Tourism Authority, no fatalities have been reported and Panama City remains open to tourism and continues its activities.
“Tocumen International Airport remains open and operational, working in coordination with airlines to enable passengers affected by temporary disruptions resulting from safety protocols to resume their journeys. The Panama Canal also continues its regular operations,” according to the announcement.
Most tourist destinations in the country are also operating normally, reports the PTA.
“In communities in the interior near the epicenter where structural damage was reported, including Penonomé, Santiago, Tonosí, Torio, and Venao, authorities are addressing the damage and supporting communities in their recovery.”
