As one of the few ancient Egyptian sites that largely escaped damage by past invaders, Abu Simbel’s temples are astounding. The main temple, known as the Great Temple, is dedicated to the gods Amun, Ra Horakhty, and Ptah, as well as to Ramses himself. The second and smaller of the two temples was built in dedication to his beloved Queen Nefertari.
