What a joy it is to hear from our clients upon their return home. Their trips vary as much as their interests and budgets. Their reactions, however, all hold this in common- Africa has stirred their souls.
The past few months represented such a kaleidoscope of wonderful journeys, handcrafted for each client. Some examples:
- A woman who loves traveling independently and adores getting to those untrodden gems in far flung locales - on this, her fifth visit, experienced Gonarezhou in Zimbabwe, Madgkagkadi Pans in Botswana and a handful of gems in between
- a couple returning after their honeymoon 22 years ago, this time with their three daughters in tow
- a grand-father making his third trip to Africa with us, this time bringing his children and grand-children
- a couple making their first trip - with a focus on capturing photos - and capture they did! What outstanding shots! Watch our blog for the posting of their photos.
- a group of adventurous types who met on a trip to the Arctic a year earlier, explored Namibia on a GS small group adventure
- best friends from grade school, now in their 50s, enjoying safari, the GS Giving Circle and Cape Town’s vibey offerings
This issue we share a couple of their stories. May you absorb the tremendous beauty and diversity found on this amazing continent, shared through their words and photos.
Cheers!

Africa - Our Trip of a Lifetime
Paulette Barrett

Since as long as I can remember, I have always had a deep desire to go to Africa, to experience the unique culture, geography and varied wildlife, such a contrast from Canada.
Last summer Todd and I went on a trip to the Arctic (his bucket list) and during the trip I met Priscilla. I immediately connected with her on a personal level and was excited to hear about her volunteer organization in Africa and her travel company Global Sojourns. By the end of our Arctic trip, she had offered to pull together a trip to Africa and within 4 months she had created the most amazing itinerary for us!
Our trip began in Cape Town…

about their incredibly rich and diverse adventure that took them to Cape Town and surrounds, Namibia on a GS Small Group Adventure, to Victoria Falls, a visit with the GS Giving Circle and then onto two camps in the Okavango Delta in Botswana!

"Thank you for making this a trip of a lifetime for us! Although we were only in Africa for three weeks, I feel such a connection to the continent and the people and am hoping to return soon!"

Kenya Memories 2019
Fred Rusina
“Hands down there is unanimous family agreement that this was a trip of a lifetime.”
|
|
The Masai Mara in Kenya during the Great Migration is a matchless sensory experience. This this past August 2019 three generations of my family completed a 10 day trip to the preserved savannah wilderness. Nine of us traveled (76 to 13 years in age) my 3 children, 2 spouses, 3 grandchildren and me, grandpa who became known during the trip as “the General” perhaps because I had to sit in the front of the safari car, hoppling in with the aid of my walking stick leading my undisciplined, bright and funny troops. Hands down there is unanimous family agreement that this was a trip of a lifetime. I couldn’t be happier and thank Pam and Priscilla of Global Sojourns for making it happen in their usual detailed style.
An African trip is perfect for multi-generational travel. The oldest can enjoy the full Safari experience especially sundowners (cocktails at sunset) while the younger ones can do guided walks, ride horses, camels or do whatever side adventure suits them.

Bose Quiet Comfort 20 Noise Cancelling Earbuds
This is a recent purchase for me and I couldn’t be happier with the investment. Impressed with both sound quality and comfort, I can only wonder why I didn’t trade in my headphones for earbuds earlier! For those who insist on wireless, word is that Bose will be releasing the
Earbuds 700 in 2020, “designed to deliver noise cancelling that’s comparable to our most powerful banded headphones”.

Reflections from a GS Sojourner
Africa beckons as a respite from the accelerating chaos of daily life. Africa’s untrodden, empty spaces call. In musical composition, the empty space—the pause—gives the notes shape. Quiet places give shape to the pieces of our lives. Regrettably, such places are shrinking.
Of course, Africa’s “empty spaces” aren’t really empty. They teem with flora, fauna, and countless stars in the night sky. Yet, that bounty provides further nourishment; an opportunity to contemplate the natural order, our place in it, and how much has been lost in so much of the world.
As my remaining steps become fewer than those already walked, I’m choosing to walk as many of them as possible in Africa and other unspoiled places. There is grace to be found there.
