Traveling with Your Pets!
|
Summer is peak travel time and many love to get out and adventure in new places with their two-and four-legged family members. Because traveling and new places can be stressful for pets, it’s important to take your pet’s emotional state into consideration. Some pets (like most cats or small animals!) don’t enjoy traveling, and would prefer to be left at home or boarded. For pets that enjoy traveling, trips can be a lot of fun for everyone, but it’s important to be prepared ahead of time to make sure your pets are as safe and relaxed as possible. In this article, KHS’s Behavior and Training Coordinator has advice and tips to share to help make traveling with your pets as stress-free as possible.

A special cat goes to Best Friends Sanctuary
|
|
When Friday the kitten arrived at KHS after being found on the side of the road in Poulsbo, the prognosis wasn’t good. A congenital spinal deformity that caused paralysis as well as continence and digestive issues could have meant euthanasia for Friday had he ended up at most other shelters.
After months of supportive care in a loving foster home, and with the support of KHS donors, Friday recently made the trip to his new home - Best Friends Animal Society’s sanctuary in Utah. We recently documented Friday’s amazing journey from homeless to saved, including photos of Friday in KHS care, on his rescue road trip, and finally… at sanctuary!

Adorable Adoptable - Benny

Adopt Benny!
Benny is a super cute brindle mutt with a big personality. He is currently in foster care and his foster family reports he is doing wonderfully!
Benny is house trained, knows commands and will even “dance” when asked! He loves walks and hanging out in the yard, but is also happy to lounge by your side like a couch potato.

Volunteer Spotlight -
Kelly Hall
|
|
Meet this month’s Volunteer Spotlight – Kelly!
Kelly has been volunteering at Kitsap Humane Society since January 2017 and in that time has contributed over 90 hours! Kelly spends her volunteer time taking professional photos of the animals to be used in promotions on our website and social media. Her photos help animals who aren’t getting attention get noticed and adopted!
When asked what she enjoys most about volunteering at Kitsap Humane Society Kelly said, “Combining my love of photography and animals seemed like a good way to give back to the community. I have witnessed the volunteers and staff working tirelessly to care for and find homes for these shelter animals; and I am just grateful to have found a small way to contribute to their efforts.”
Thank you, Kelly, for all you do!

Community Spotlight - Kitsap Credit Union
|
|
If you’re looking for banking that gives back, look no further than Kitsap Credit Union. “Founded on the principles of people helping people,” Kitsap Credit Union is a great ally and partner for the work we do here at KHS. In 2017, they partnered with us to print over 2,000 Annual Reports, helping us share 2016 statistics with our supporters. They also printed our lovely PetsWALK banners, thereby helping us advertise this upcoming event.
Kitsap Credit Union says “together, we’re changing the way banking is done. Not just providing the products and services you need, but by helping people achieve more financially, socially, and as a community.” We couldn’t agree more!
During the month of July, all Kitsap Credit Union branches within Kitsap County will have collection boxes for pet food and items from our wish list. If you’re looking for a convenient place to drop off some needed items, stop by your local Kitsap Credit Union branch today!
Thank you, Kitsap Credit Union, for your support in helping us save more shelter pets in need!
