"Artists and books have a long-standing relationship, from the earliest 'illuminations' -- exquisite drawings that decorated the margins of early European texts -- through books made by artists, and works that show the collaboration between authors and visual artists, especially compelling in illustrated books for children. This wide-ranging exhibit presents both contemporary and historic explorations of the book form, and the relationship of text and image, including rare illustrated manuscripts borrowed from the Sutro Library and the Special Collections of SF State's J. A Children's Book About Being Afraid

Every so often, we all feel small. Once in awhile, we are hardly seen at all.
Travis Collinson is an artist and art teacher currently living in San Francisco. His work is in numerous collections including the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. His teaching experiences with children have lead him to the conclusion that children are as crazy and scared as he is; hence the illustrations. This is his first children's book.
