Join me for a late summer journey through the beautiful landscapes and charming towns of the HUDSON RIVER VALLEY in NEW YORK STATE and the BERKSHIRES in WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS. Enjoy a superb selection of museums, historic landmarks and architectural treasures as well as the fresh local cuisine in restaurants along the way.
Lyndhurst is a Gothic Revival country house in Tarrytown, New York designed in 1836 by .Alexander Jackson Davis.
THURSDSAY, SEPTEMBER 9 – Depart Philadelphia for TARRYTOWN and a tour at LYNDHURST, the newly restored Gothic Revival mansion of railroad magnate JAY GOULD.

A visit to FRANCES LEHMAN LOEB ART CENTER at VASSAR COLLEGE in POUGHKEEPSIE is on our itinerary before an included dinner in RHINEBECK, known for its charming shops and galleries. Check in at the HOMEWOOD SUITES near ALBANY.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 10 Travel to HUDSON, NEW YORK for a morning walking tour exploring the diverse social history, architecture, and people of the town founded by Quakers in 1785. Suggestions will be provided for lunch on your own. There will be time to explore the superb array of shops near Warren Street.

In the afternoon we visit GLENS FALLS to see the small spectacular HYDE COLLECTION with its distinguished holdings of European and American Art including works by Rembrandt, Botticelli, Degas, Homer and more. Dinner is included this evening in the lovely town of SARATOGA SPRINGS. (B, D)
Glens Falls, New York was named for Colonel Johannes Glen, the falls referring to a large waterfall in the Hudson River at the southern end of the city.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 11-Travel through the BERKSHIRES to WILLIAMSTOWN and the STERLING AND FRANCINE CLARK ART INSTITUTE with its world class art collection It is especially rich in French Impressionist and Academic paintings as well as works by Winslow Homer and John Singer Sargent. A special exhibition on view is Nikolai Astrup: Visions of Norway.

Later visit MASS MoCA, the fabulous venue for contemporary art which completely transformed the town of NORTH ADAMS since it opened 22 years ago. Recently installed there is James Turrell’s C.A.V.U, the artist’s largest free-standing SKYPACE. A stop for dinner on your own is planned on our return trip to Philadelphia (B)
