LOVE Yourself & LOVE Your Health This February!

Leap year brings us an extra day this February to focus on the month of love & American Heart Month! Cardiovascular or heart disease is a serious risk in our country. There are simple steps you can take to reduce your risk: maintain a healthy weight, choose good nutrition, and be physically active. Activities to improve or maintain a healthy heart can start at the gym - by making an effort to get moving, you are already helping your heart become stronger for years to come. Heart health emphasizes the importance of exercise for all ages and all types of fitness – from lifting weights and running to light cardio and low impact movements. The PTO Fitness Center has something for everyone to encourage physical activity. This month, we’re focusing on group cardio classes that help get your heart beating faster!

February gives us Valentine’s Day to celebrate romance – or for those Parks and Rec fans, Leslie Knope’s “Galentine’s Day” to celebrate the joys of female friendship. This month, I’m going to focus on another type of love as well – self-love. I lost track of going to my usual gym classes during the holidays, and it’s easy to let the cold air and dark winter hours keep me at home, unmotivated. But I’ve realized if I make time, even if it’s just one class a week, I feel better. I feel more energized, less stressed, and ultimately proud of myself for making the time to do something that improves my body, mind, and heart. Join me this month in making the time and taking the steps toward living a heart healthy life!
