Dept. of Justice reiterates guidance on use of medication in jails for opioid use disorder

The U.S. Department of Justice reminds correctional facilities, including county jails, about the applicability of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to incarcerated individuals recovering from opioid use disorder.

Training required to qualify for County-City Bridge Improvement Program

FY25 funding for a new County-City Bridge Improvement Program (CCBIP) is $25 million to cover the repair and replacement of county- or city-owned bridges. 


Funding applications will be accepted beginning July 1, 2024 using form TC 20-44 along with relevant bridge inspection reports.


To qualify for the CCBIP, county judge/executives must complete free online training provided by the Kentucky Transportation Center.


The first Local Bridges 101 webinars are scheduled for July 11 and July 16, however registration for these dates are now full. Judges who were unable to register can email doug.taylor@ky.gov for more information.

Private and public sector employment in Kentucky counties

The employment landscape in Kentucky reflects a diverse mix of private sector and government employment, which varies significantly across different counties. Understanding these variations provides valuable insights into the state's economic structure and labor market dynamics.


In Dec. 2023, private sector employment constituted 85% of total covered employment in Kentucky while the public sector accounted for 15%. Counties with the highest levels of private sector employment included Boone, Scott and Jefferson.

KACo Time Capsule: June 1980

The June 1980 issue of County Viewpoint, KACo’s monthly newsletter, included a request to Gov. John Y. Brown to call a special legislative session to address fiscal issues for counties, announced the Governor’s Task Force on Jails and promoted Kenton County Commissioner Robert Aldemeyer’s campaign for the NACo presidency.
