Wetutoskimetowin: 'to work on it together'
We are on the homestretch to warmer weather! Spring means longer days, warmer temperatures, and the opportunity to get outside. Think about creating a Treaty-themed scavenger hunt for your students. Have them search for local Treaty history in place names, the names of streets, neighbourhoods, buildings, parks and greenspaces, public art installations, etc. Look for First Nations' language terms, Treaty/territorial acknowledgement signage, and so on.

Kinikinik is a short instructive piece of theatre. Commissioned by the TRCM, playwright Ian Ross created the play to educate and share experiences relative to Treaties and the Treaty relationship. The story and issues are explored through three main characters: a wolf, beaver, and turtle.

The Hudson's Bay Company established Lac La Pluie House in 1818; it was renamed Fort Frances in 1830 after a visit by HBC Governor Sir George and Lady Frances Simpson. The post was a trading site for the Anishinaabe and served as a negotiating spot for Treaty No. 3. Manitoba's Buffalo Point First Nation’s Chief Ayashwash signed Treaty No. 3 on the U.S. side of the border at Harrison Creek on October 3, 1873.
