Wetutoskimetowin: 'to work on it together'
Since its inception in 2009-2010, Treaty Education has offered an annual teacher's Summer Institute. Our team is excited to announce that this August we will be able to gather in-person! The two-day session will take place in Winnipeg on August 24 & 25 and will include a walking tour of The Forks, a half-day at the Manitoba Museum and Planetarium, a complementary teacher's guide, and a Treaty Education Kit. Scroll down to see how to register. Hope to see you there!

Teaching Treaty Relationships: A Timeline Activity for Students is a hands-on learning activity where students construct a timeline centred on the history of Treaty No.1. Doing so, they examine historical patterns and trends and the cause and effect of key historical events. Consider adapting for other Treaty areas.

The Iron Alliance (Nehiya Pwat) was a political and military alliance of several Indigenous nations in Canada and the northwestern United States. The four groups within this confederacy – Nêhiyawak/Plains Cree, Saulteaux/Plains
Ojibwe, Metis, and Nakoda/Stoney - had extensive kinship ties. The Confederacy rose to predominance during the height of the fur trade between the 1740’s and 1860’s. In the early 1820’s there was a call to gather at Buffalo Lodge Lake (present-day northwest North Dakota) to solidify the unity of the people. Many believe that the largest Sun Dance ever to occur on the Northern Plains took place.
