The Treaty Relations Commission of Manitoba celebrated its 20th anniversary as part of the province's annual Treaty Week, May 18–22. Meant to recognize the enduring importance of Treaties and their role in shaping relationships between First Nations and all Manitobans, events celebrating the TRCM and Treaties took place at the Forks and at Government House. Treaty Sleuthing: Spaces + Places

Fort Douglas was the Selkirk Settlement's administrative centre and the first Hudson Bay Company fort in Winnipeg. On July 18, 1817 a historic meeting took place at Fort Douglas between First Nation leaders and Lord Selkirk leading to the Peguis-Selkirk Treaty. Located near today’s Waterfront Drive, the site is marked with a historical cairn.

Lower Fort Garry

Are you planning on visiting Lower Fort Garry this summer? Located north of Winnipeg on the Red River, it was a Hudson Bay Company stronghold and the site of the making of Treaty No. 1 in 1871. While there, check out the video 'Honouring the Gift of the Treaties' playing in the theatre.
