Good Catch Winner of the Month
Congrats, Jack!
Congratulations to Jack Stahura, one of our Class of 2022 interns, who was the July Good Catch winner of the month!

Jack and another miner started changing screen decks on the Hp-300 cone crusher. He was getting all of the tools ready when he noticed that the crusher was not locked and tagged out. Jack stopped what he was doing and locked and tagged the crusher out before continuing his work.
Jack receives his $100 gift card
Great job, Jack! Way to hit the ground running with an eye towards safety!

The June contest grand prize of a fishing excursion for two with Fishing Pro Chris Adams went to contestant Brennan Watkins - who generously donated his prize to his fishing enthusiast co-workers Kevin Chamberlain and Greg Hale! We hope you have a great time out on the water.

We had a lot of interest in our equipment rodeo at the Vermont State Fair in Rutland last week. HUGE SHOUT-OUT to everyone who volunteered to help out over our 3-day run at the fair. Jeff Chase, Kyle Cornell, Jeremy Fowler, Kelly Jakubowski, Kristi Ladabouche, Kim Lewis, Brad Matteson, Tara Raymond, Kim Webster, Nicole Webster, Joseph Casella and John Casella II, thank you for stepping up and making it a fun experience for participants. We received a good response, with many operators in the area testing out their skills on our equipment. We're excited to take it up a notch for next year's fair! Check out more photos below.

Project Update

The slide rail shoring is gone, and the road is built back. There was a lot of water to deal with, Rodney worked the dozer, ECI milled the area, and hot dog got in on the fun. Paving starts this week as well!
Incredible work team, everything looks great and it's been fun to see the project progress. Keep up the great work!
Safety Topic: Handling Chemicals
When handling chemicals, you should understand:
  • How the chemicals get into your body (i.e. via skin, eyes, mouth, etc.)
  • How the chemical can affect your health (i.e. rash, dizziness, difficulty breathing, etc.)
  • What protection is required for the chemical being used (i.e. gloves, goggles, mask, etc.).

This information is located in the Safety Data Sheets. If you have questions about a chemical, do not handle it until those questions have been answered.
When handling chemicals, keep in mind these four basic tips to protect yourself:
  1. Before using equipment that requires chemicals, check for leaks. Clean equipment and check again at the end of the day.
  2. Wash your hands, forearms and face before you eat, drink, smoke or rub your eyes.
  3. If you have cuts or skinned areas on your body, use gloves or waterproof bandages if available.
  4. Ensure your co-workers are not downwind when spraying.
Can you answer the question from this week's safety discussion?
How do you access the Safety Data Sheets that contain infomation about chemicals?
They are attached to the piece of equipment that contains chemicals.
They are supplied to you upon request.
They should be memorized.
