Tree falls, narrowly missing church; Damage appears minimal; Morning Prayer will be said in Parish Hall tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. (8:00 a.m. cancelled)
[LITHGOW, N. Y.] A tree fell during yesterday's high winds, narrowly missing the church, but damaging the porch and narthex.
"This could have been a catastrophe," The Rev. Jake Dell, vicar, said. "We are very lucky. It couldn't have landed in a better spot," he continued, adding that the Sexton's family was home when it happened, and saw the tree come down.
No one was injured by the falling limbs and branches and damage appears to be minimal. The tree now lies on its side, directly in front of the church.
Morning Prayer will be said tomorrow in the Parish House at 9:30 a.m. Child care will be offered during the service (please RSVP to Marie Scagnelli at firstname.lastname@example.org). Coffee hour will follow the service.
"At 35% capacity, the Parish House can accommodate up to 43 people," the Vicar said. Extra folding chairs are available he noted. "Unfortunately, the Parish House does not allow for live-streaming the service," he added.
The 8 a.m. service of Holy Communion is cancelled.
