A resource for families in Santa Cruz County
There's a Fun Analogy Here
"The 2020 CZU fire that swept through Big Basin was unprecedented in the scale of damage to ancient trees. It left behind enormous charred trunks in what had once been a lush forest. Scientists thought it might be the end of these trees as we knew them.
But upon returning to the scene months later, researchers discovered the bereft trees had used long-stored energy to grow buds long hidden within their bark. These green sprouts demonstrate the resilience of the redwood trees." Read more by Madeline Muzdakis > > >

The decision to bring children into our lives is a life changing event, swelling our hearts with a powerful, awesome love and challenging us to draw upon our resources, strength and desires to be good parents. I see the amazing, strong parent tree and its youthful, vivid, energetic "little trees" as analogus to parents fulfilling our roles of providing strength, safety, and wisdom as we guide and nourish our lively, unique, eager children in their quest to become independent, thriving adults, growing their talents and following their dreams.
Yes indeed, strong, wise parents, most definitely "human", wanting to parent well, sometimes losing it, but picking ourselves up and moving forward. This month Triple-P celebrates Positive Parenting Month and supports our parenting with 30 days of parenting tips. Involve the children in this one-a-day action and reap the rewards.
Hearty wishes for happy collaborations! Parmalee

January is Positive Parenting Awareness Month!
Triple-P has a positive, daily, action gift for us parents!
January 1 - Reflect on what hope means to you as a parent and for your family. Think back on a moment that brought hope and joy to your family. Consider adding a positive step to your parenting routine this week and explore joining a workshop for extra support and insights to address challenges.
January 2 - Capture a joyful moment today. Share your photos, discuss the joy they brought, and celebrate the everyday moments together. Here's a valuable lesson from this practice: learn to notice the good in the little things and strive to develop a positive outlook by focusing on hopeful and uplifting moments, even in challenging times.
January 3 - Start a family Gratitude Jar. Decorate a jar or container together with colors or decorations. Write one thankful moment on a small paper and drop it in throughout the year and watch the jar fill with joys.
| |
January 4 - Take a moment for yourself today with a realistic and easy self-care choice. Choose one thing for your well-being, whether it's a quiet moment with a cup of tea, a short walk, or just taking a few deep breaths. Let's make self-care simple and doable for all parents!
January 5 - Create a Family Weather Report: Share your emotional 'weather' report as a family. It's a simple way to check in with each other and foster open communication. Brainstorm ideas on simple things you can do to support each other.
January 6 - Move it and groove it to some fun tunes! It's a fantastic way to release energy and have fun together.
January 7 - Simplify your upcoming week by doing one thing today. Set out clothes, choose recipes, or make a to-do list. Involve your kids by organizing their supplies, picking clothes, or suggesting meals.
