Issue #231, April 2024

We Are Pruning and Removing Vegetation

We will be pruning and removing vegetation throughout our service territory, in accordance with the Public Utility Commission clearance requirements.

Vegetation management is important to minimize wildfire risk, increase public safety, and maintain safe and reliable electric service.

You may see Columbia River PUD crews or contracted Asplundh crews trimming and clearing vegetation near our power lines. Please call us at (503) 397-1844 if you have any concerns.

If you have trees growing into power lines near your home, please let us know.

Please Plant Trees Away from Power Lines

We work hard to provide you with reliable, affordable electric service. Trees growing too close to power lines can cause interruptions in service and may even put people in danger.

You can help keep electric service safe and reliable for our community. When planting trees, please keep them at least 30 feet away from overhead power lines. This helps reduce the risk of an incident.

Request a Free Home Energy Evaluation

We offer free home energy evaluations to customers who heat their homes with electricity.

These evaluations can help you identify ways to cut energy waste, which helps keep your bills down. Older homes typically benefit the most from these evaluations.

If you are interested, please fill out a request form.

Tax Incentives and Rebates Available

Increased federal tax credits for energy efficient home upgrades are available as part of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.

These incentives can make it more affordable to purchase new energy efficient equipment that helps you save on your monthly utility bills.

In addition, we offer rebates for qualifying upgrades to customers with electric heat.

Slow Down, Move Over for Line Crews

When you see our crews working alongside the road, please slow down or move over.

This will help keep our linemen and tree trimmers safe. In Oregon, it's the law.

Oregon law requires drivers to slow down or move over when they approach stationary vehicles displaying flashing lights.

Thank you for helping keep our crews safe.

Please Don't Post Signs on Utility Poles

Please do not hang anything on utility poles. We know it can be tempting to hang garage sale signs or other items on utility poles, but there are good reasons why you shouldn't.

Staples, nails, and tacks damage our poles. They shorten the lives of our poles, which increases our maintenance costs that are funded by electric rates.

While our linemen typically work from bucket trucks, they still need to climb poles occasionally. Staples, nails, and tacks create dangerous obstacles for them. Please help keep them safe.

Keep Yourself Safe from Scam Attempts

Please be wary of criminals posing as Columbia River PUD employees.

Scammers may call, text, or email you threatening to shut off your power if you do not pay them immediately.

This is not something we do. If you ever receive a suspicious call claiming to be from a CRPUD employee, please hang up and call us directly at (503) 397-0590.
