A 100-Year “Love-a-Fair”
by Lyle Holmgren
This year highlights a historic milestone for our community—the 100th anniversary of the Box Elder County Fair and Golden Spike Rodeo. For a century, families, farmers, rodeo fans, and fairgoers from across Northern Utah and neighboring states have gathered in Tremonton to celebrate our rural heritage, honor our agricultural roots, and create lasting memories.
What started as an annual Competition Day, sponsored by the Box Elder County Farm Bureau and the Tremonton Commercial Club, eventually grew into a county-wide movement to establish the Box Elder County Fair. The desire to turn the annual Competition Day into a full-fledged county fair had been debated by city, county, Farm Bureau leaders, and others for quite some time.
Then, on June 24th, 1925, the Tremonton Commercial Club held a meeting with the Box Elder Farm Bureau and other county leaders, during which Tremonton City offered to sponsor the county fair “for any stated number of years, free of charge” on a recently purchased five-acre parcel of land. “A motion, unanimously carried,” by members of the Tremonton Commercial Club actively backed the establishment of the Box Elder County Fair, which was scheduled to be held in September that year.

Build Our Future Together - Connect With Us.
Tremonton is a unique city focused on connections. We are connected with our rich
heritage as a town founded by immigrants who created a welcoming, supportive community. We are connected in our vision of a bright future that remembers our roots, preserves our values, and grows with intelligence and intention without
compromising what makes our city special. We are connected to each other through our small-town spirit where neighbors know and help one another and residents and city officials alike listen and collaborate. We are connected to the land and nature with beautiful outdoor surroundings, fun adventures, and agricultural ties. We are connected to all that our valley offers— meaningful work, quality education, entertainment, incredible outdoor adventure, and more—as well as the world at large with easy access to key highways and lighting-fast internet connection. Tremonton is a City of Connections, and it’s what makes our town a gem of Northern Utah.

Chief Message
As the summer heat increases, don't forget to drink plenty of water. The rule of thumb is eight, 8-ounce glasses of water a day. This is great if you are sitting indoors all day with the air conditioner on. If you are in a hot environment of any kind, with or without the sun, you need to be thinking of more like double the normal 8 glasses of water. In addition to this, if you are becoming thirsty now you have already fallen behind. You need to stay consistent with water intake on hot days and begin drinking water first thing in the morning and continue throughout the day. While it's frustrating to keep going to the restroom because you are drinking so much water, you will be so happy that you avoided a heat related emergency in the long run. Stay safe by staying hydrated.
Enjoy your summer,
Chief Jarrow

Hopefully by the end of this month there will be a new receptionist inside the front door.
