Tremonton Fire Department
Cold weather doesn't stop our progress! Firefighters from the Tremonton Fire Department have teamed up with firefighters from Brigham Fire and Garland Fire to advance their knowledge. Our firefighters have been going through the certification process for the Apparatus Driver Operator- Aerial course. Their course teaches your firefighters and advances their knowledge on operations, driving, and setting up for the Ladder truck Tremonton Fire Department houses. We want to thank them for taking the time to better serve our community.
The holidays are fast approaching us. And while we want everyone to enjoy them with their loved ones, we'd like to leave you with a few safety tips.
1. Heating Safety
Keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet from space heaters, fireplaces, and wood stoves.
Plug space heaters directly into a wall outlet, never a power strip.
Turn heaters off when leaving the room or going to sleep.
Have chimneys and heating systems professionally inspected each winter.
2. Candle & Decoration Safety
Use battery-operated candles whenever possible.
Keep candles at least 12 inches from decorations and curtains.
Only use UL-listed lights and electrical decor.
Replace light strings with frayed wires, loose bulbs, or damaged insulation.
3. Holiday Tree Safety
Choose a fresh tree: needles should not fall off easily.
Keep the tree watered daily to prevent drying out.
Place trees 3 feet away from heat sources.
Dispose of real trees promptly after the holidays; they dry out quickly and become hazardous.
4. Kitchen Safety
Never leave cooking food unattended—most holiday fires start in the kitchen.
Keep children and pets at least 3 feet away from hot surfaces.
Turn pot handles inward and keep flammable items (towels, packaging, mitts) away from the stove.
If a pan catches fire, slide a lid on to smother it—never throw water on a grease fire.
5. Electrical Safety
Don’t overload outlets or extension cords.
Use outdoor-rated lights and cords for exterior decorations.
Turn off holiday lights when leaving home or going to bed.
6. Carbon Monoxide & Smoke Alarms
Install CO alarms on every level of the home, especially near sleeping areas.
Test smoke and CO alarms monthly and replace batteries if needed.
Never use grills or generators indoors or in garages.
7. Winter Weather Preparedness
Keep sidewalks and driveways clear to prevent slips and to ensure emergency access.
Maintain an emergency kit with blankets, flashlights, batteries, and necessary medications.
Check on elderly neighbors or anyone who may struggle with heating or mobility.
8. Fireplace & Wood Stove Safety
Use a screen or glass door to keep sparks from escaping.
Dispose of ashes in a metal container with a tight lid—store it outside and away from buildings.
Burn only dry, seasoned wood—avoid trash, gift wrap, or treated lumber.
