A Note from the Mayor I Mayor Bret Rohde

A Word Before You Read

A year ago this month, a text came through to the City Council. Two officers down. I remember the horror of that evening, the kind that doesn't leave you.

Then came August 18th. As Eric and Lee were brought back home, I watched this community do what it does best. Main Street filled up. People stood shoulder to shoulder, rows deep, for two men they wanted to honor. I was touched beyond words by that unity, by the love this valley has for the officers who protect it. That day showed me exactly how we all fit together.

This report isn't mine to write. I asked Councilman Brent Jex to write it instead. Brent is an officer. He lived that night alongside his brothers, he stays in touch with every one of them, and he serves this city on the council. Healing for our department is going to take time, and it only comes with time. I wanted Brent to have the room to say some of what he and his fellow officers are carrying, in his own words.

So I'll step back now. Please read what he wrote, and give our officers the grace this month asks for.

Mayor Bret Rohde

CITY NEWS

Build Our Future Together - Connect With Us.

Tremonton is a unique city focused on connections. We are connected with our rich

heritage as a town founded by immigrants who created a welcoming, supportive community. We are connected in our vision of a bright future that remembers our roots, preserves our values, and grows with intelligence and intention without

compromising what makes our city special. We are connected to each other through our small-town spirit where neighbors know and help one another and residents and city officials alike listen and collaborate. We are connected to the land and nature with beautiful outdoor surroundings, fun adventures, and agricultural ties. We are connected to all that our valley offers— meaningful work, quality education, entertainment, incredible outdoor adventure, and more—as well as the world at large with easy access to key highways and lighting-fast internet connection. Tremonton is a City of Connections, and it’s what makes our town a gem of Northern Utah.

Ready for School—and Ready for an Emergency

As students return to school, August is a good time for every household to review its family emergency plan.

Take a few minutes to make sure everyone in your household knows:

· How family members will contact one another if normal phone service is disrupted.

· Where you will meet if you cannot return home.

· Who is authorized to pick up your children from school.

· The school’s emergency notification and reunification procedures.

· An out-of-area contact who can help relay information between family members.

Keep emergency contact information in your child’s backpack and save important numbers in every family member’s phone. Families should also have basic emergency supplies at home and in each vehicle, including water, snacks, necessary medications, a flashlight, phone charger, first-aid supplies and seasonal clothing.

Most importantly, make sure you receive reliable information during a local emergency. Sign up for Tremonton City Alerts and follow instructions issued by public safety officials. Emergency plans are most effective when families discuss and practice them before they are needed. For more information you can check out Utah’s Be Ready program.

SENIOR CENTER

Directors Message

August means more heat, fair time, and back-to-school shopping. It is time to get your entries all ready for the fair. I love wandering around and seeing all of the talent our county has to offer. It is also time to apply for heat assistance and property tax abatement. If you need any help with these items, please come and see me. I can get you the proper paperwork and even help you fill it out if you would like.

We have one BIG change to make to our program. When I say we, I am speaking of the federal government. The pick-up meal program was an answer to the pandemic and social distancing. With that all behind us now, this program is being removed. After this month, we will no longer be offering pick-up meals. If you feel strongly that you require this, you can fill out a form to request an exemption. However, the number of exemptions allowed is very minimal and is based on the number of congregate meals eaten at our location. Please do not argue this with my staff. If you have concerns or issues, come and visit with me.
