Happy
Almost Spring!
According to the sign across the street, the Home Opener is less than a month away! We're happy to report that teamwork is thriving at Tri-C as well. The first quarter of 2019 has put multiple national spotlights on the College, students, faculty and staff, including:
- U.S. Small Business Administrator (SBA) Linda McMahon praises Tri-C workforce approach & Mobile Training Unit in national testimony – After a February visit and tour, the Administrator noted before the Senate SBA Oversight Committee that Tri-C's "kind of innovative thinking ... is going to be one of the ways we're going to be able to increase our workforce." (Article/Video link below)
- Achieving the Dream honors Tri-C for Excellence in Student Success – Tri-C is honored to be one of only 11 Community Colleges in the country to receive the award. (Details below)
- Our students are earning top honors – Accolades range from a National Scholarship for a student in our Plant Science Program to Top Academic All-American Honors for members of our Cross Country women's team. (Highlights of these and more below)
How does this all happen? Through community support from you and all residents of Cuyahoga County. Every five years we have a levy on the ballot. Levy support provides 46% of our operating budget and allows us to create programs and educational opportunities that help our students, and our community, succeed.
Our next ballot appearance will be this year, in November 2019.
We create this quarterly e-newsletter for you – our civic and community leaders – to share Tri-C updates and community news that may be of interest to you & your constituents. Please feel free to share articles and contact me if Tri-C can be of help to you – whether for community partnerships, tours of our dynamic workforce areas, securing meeting spaces, or simply working together to meet community goals.
Sincerely,
Claire Rosacco

These College Classes are Going to Work
On Feb. 22, New York Times writer Kerry Hannon profiled the creativity and impact of Tri-C's Mobile Training Unit, which brings Tri-C workforce classes to worksites.
Excerpt:
“Our trailer, which is booked for 47 weeks this year, allows us to take the training to businesses and directly address the region’s manufacturing skills gap,” said William Gary, EVP of Workforce, Community and Economic Development at Tri-C. “Employees can walk right out of the plant and into our trailer for an hour, or three hours, to conduct the training right on site.” And students learn skills they can use right away, notes Hannon.
