Greetings from Tri-C,
It has been a busy quarter welcoming elected officials & community partners to campus. From being a host site for a state Redistricting Session to the 30th anniversary celebration of the Ron Mottl Baseball Field on our West Campus, we have welcomed elected officials from the White House to the State House and local officials. U.S Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves, Governor Mike DeWine and local Mayors joined us in celebrating accomplishments, milestones and workforce partnerships.
Recently President Dr. Alex Johnson announced his retirement effective June 30, 2022. We are honored to have had the opportunity to work with Dr. Johnson, the fourth president at Cuyahoga Community College. Dr. Johnson has done a wonderful job leading us through some very turbulent times. He will be missed and we wish him the very best in retirement.
Sincerely,
Claire

Tri-C President Dr. Alex Johnson Announces Upcoming Retirement
College will conduct a nationwide search
|
After nearly a decade of leadership, Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) President Dr. Alex Johnson is announcing his retirement, effective June 30, 2022. Johnson took office in July 2013 as the College’s fourth president.
Under his leadership, Tri-C renewed its commitment to providing educational access throughout Northeast Ohio. He oversaw an era of increasing graduation rates at the College, the result of new investments in workforce training, capital improvements and programs serving those in low-income and distressed areas.
A search will be conducted by a national search firm, with the aim of hiring a new College president next spring. More

U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce, Don Graves visited the Transportation Innovation Center and
Manufacturing Technology Center
|
Deputy Secretary Graves toured our Transportation Innovation Center in Euclid where he had the opportunity to experience the truck driving simulator. Later, at the Metro Campus Manufacturing and Technology Center (MTC) he held an engaging round-table discussion with local business and community leaders on the importance of workforce training, the growth in manufacturing jobs, and exports that are vital to the economic recovery of local communities.
.
Graves has a rich family history connected to the Commerce Department. His great grandparents built a successful horse and buggy taxi business in Washington that once stood at the site of the Department’s headquarters. Their son went on to become one of our nation’s first Black patent-holders through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
