We know it's Spring when the orange cones comes out, the Guardians return to the other corner of Carnegie & Ontario, and the first of two Primaries is on the horizon. It's also a wonderful time to share College advancements, student and faculty successes, and a slew of programs that are open to the community – whether for everyday assistance or exploring new horizons.


This newsletter is written specifically for you – our Elected Officials and Community Partners – to share college news-of-note as well as resources that may be of use to you and your constituents.

Tri-C Joining National Effort to Design the Community College of the Future


Tri-C is one of five institutions Education Design Lab is convening to develop and implement strategic plans to improve workforce outcomes for learners. The colleges will reimagine community colleges for the future. Tri-C President Michael A. TriC Plant Science program wins national honors

Team continues to shine in national spotlight


Cuyahoga Community College once again raked in honors at the 2025 National Collegiate Landscape Competition (NCLC).


Tri-C's Plant Science and Landscape Technology team took second place overall, and student Christine Kermond came in second among 727 students in individual honors. Tri-C also won five event championships during the competition and placed in the top four in 11 events. More

Tri-C Cybersecurity Student Chris Wise Wins Technology Champion Award


A Dean's List student and Phi Theta Kappa scholar, Chris was one of two students recognized nationally with a scholarship from the League for Innovation. Each year, the League for Innovation gives the award to a community college student with an interest in a field of technology who demonstrates talent, passion, academic excellence and more. Winners receive a $1,000 scholarship. More

Tri-C Alum and Cuyahoga County Council Member Meredith Turner

From hoops, track and volleyball teams while at Tri-C to a return as a women's assistant coach for those sports, Cuyahoga County Ward 9 Council Member Meredith Turner now serves her community in a key role. In a recent conversation, District 9 Council Member Turner noted that her Tri-C degree helped lead to her bachelor's and master's degrees. She adds, "It's actually the one that means the most to me." Learn about the many accolades she's earned, from the 2022 Citizen of the Year to 2025's The Power of SHE Social Justice Award.

Welcome! Dr. Steve Griffin has been hired to serve as the inaugural vice president for skill-based education and career pathways, serving as the chief learning officer for workforce students. Dr. Griffin brings extensive experience in academic leadership, most recently serving as an American Council on Education Fellow at Tri-C and interim provost & VP of Academic Affairs at Wilberforce University.

Memorial Day Commemoration Friday, May 23, Tri-C Western Campus 11 a.m.

Tri-C will hold its annual Memorial Day Commemoration outside - weather permitting - in the Veterans Memorial Garden on the Western Campus. Dr. Todd Kitchen, Tri-C Eastern Campus President and a veteran himself, is slated to be the speaker. This event is open to the public as well as Tri-C students, faculty and staff. All are welcome.

Tri-C is proud to have earned the Military Friendly School designation for 16 consecutive years. Schools with Gold status are those that showcase exceptional programs and initiatives for military members and veterans.

Opened in 1963, Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) is Ohio's first community college and remains one of the state's largest community colleges. To date, more than 1,200,000 students have come through Tri-C's doors.


The college offers two-year associate degrees, certificate programs, and the first two years of a baccalaureate degree. The curriculum includes over 1,000 credit courses in more than 200 career, certificate and university transfer programs. Courses are offered at four campus locations, two Corporate College facilities, many off-campus sites, and via television and internet.
