Employee Spotlight
Denton Jones

This month's Employee Spotlight is Denton Jones, Journeyman for Tri-County Electric. Denton has been with Tri-County Electric for 6 years.

Here are three fun facts about Denton, along with what he loves most about his job:

  1. Denton enjoys hunting, truck pulling, and spending time outdoors.
  2. Was born and raised in Kirksville.
  3. Started out at Tri-County as an intern and hired on full time after finishing line school and we couldn't be more thankful!

Favorite part of the job:

“My favorite thing about my job is being out in the rural community and just being outside.”

Be sure to say hello to Denton next time you see him out and about or at our Member Appreciation event.

More Ways to Pay

Did you know there are multiple ways to pay your bill and you can even make multiple payments?

  • Pay in person during office ours or use our drop-box located on the North side of our building after hours.
  • Make one-time payments online by using our website www.tricountyelectri.org or schedule auto-pay for reoccurring payments, schedule ACH through your bank, or call our office to set up your account on draft. Don't forget, we don't charge processing or credit card fees!
  • You can also call and request Levelized Billing which averages your last 12 months.
  • Did you know we can also take multiple payments throughout the month if you would like to leave a credit on your bill. You can also pay ahead!

Trees and Power Lines

Pro tip: if a tree branch is within 10 feet of a power line, it’s strictly a job for the pros! Our certified tree trimmers are prepared to cut and trim any tree near power lines. Let’s leave the extreme pruning to the experts so you can keep your power running and your weekend DIY projects hazard-free! Give us a shout at 660-457-3733 if you spot a tree getting too close for comfort.

Meet our Interns!

Help us welcome our newest interns to Tri-County Electric Cooperative! Chris Huffman will be a summer intern in the Operations Department, Hailey Kraus and Violet Gray will be our Communications & Billing interns. We are so excited to have all three this summer!

Understanding Your New Bill

Let's Talk Demand, Part 3

Associated Electric Cooperative, who generates our power, surveyed our members in the fall of 2025. According to that survey, some of our members still don’t quite understand what demand is and why we changed our billing to incorporate it. It’s our duty to be transparent about our charges and while we have the information available on our website, social media pages and on our bill, it’s hard to capture such a big topic in short clips. So, we thought by trying to explain it in a series, it might be better!

This is part THREE - How to Offset YOUR Demand

As a reminder, about half of what Tri-County Electric Cooperative pays for power is tied to demand. Demand is the amount of electricity needed at one specific moment; not just how much you use over the entire month. It’s a concept that can feel a little confusing, but it really comes down to timing. When multiple large appliances like your air conditioner, water heater, dryer, or oven, are running at the same time, your demand increases.

As a member-owner, you have the direct power to lower your energy bills by managing your demand usage. Controlling demand isn't about sitting in the dark or sacrificing comfort; it is simply about shifting when you use major appliances. When you avoid using high-energy devices all at the same time, you help by not overloading the system. This collective effort keeps electricity rates stable and affordable for everyone in the community.

Taking control of your demand usage at home is easy when you focus on a few daily habits. Start by shifting heavy chores, like running the dishwasher or doing laundry, to late at night or early in the morning. You can also "pre-cool" or "pre-heat" your home just before warmer/colder temps begin to creep in, allowing your thermostat to coast during the highest-demand windows. Additionally, try to stagger your energy use rather than running the clothes dryer, the oven, and an electric vehicle charger all at the exact same time. For an even bigger impact, you can enroll in our rebate programs to help with appliance efficiency.

Electrical Safety

Did you know that 79% of children have taken risks with electricity?

As parents and caregivers, we do everything we can to keep our little ones safe. But some of the biggest dangers in our homes are completely invisible until it’s too late.

Electrical accidents account for almost HALF of all house fires, and many happen right in our kids' bedrooms and kitchens.

What you can do today: 1️⃣ Clear cables out of reach of toddlers and babies. 2️⃣ Set up a designated charging station in the kitchen or living room—no charging phones in bed overnight! 3️⃣ Only buy genuine, manufacturer-approved charging cables.

TCEC Linemen

What are the TCEC Linemen up to?

Bad weather in May had our linemen working around the clock. Hopefully June will bring more sunshine and less rain.

Our crews will continue working on retiring services and completing a variety of other system improvements including pole change outs and installing new services. They are also gearing up for additional training with AMEC.

Pole Checkers & Tree Crews

Attention members: Tri-County Electric will have pole inspectors in the Connelsville and Sperry areas for approximately the next two months. We also have tree crews in our service area.

If you have any questions, please contact our Operations Department at
