Brexit and Beyond Panel Discussion

Parliament approved a December 12th election on October 29th. Following this, UK government departments and all civil servants, HTMC included, entered into an election period on Wednesday, November 6
. This period is routinely governed by restrictive guidance. During it, civil servants refrain from most public engagements, announcing new initiatives or policy changes, and, broadly speaking, taking any action that might commit any incoming administration to policies it wouldn't support. The civil service does this to remain impartial as it is their responsibility to carry out government policy, not lead on making it. This restrictive period will last until a new government is formed.
