Jason Younker, Jen Procter Andrews win Tribal Council races

Jason Younker has been re-elected as the Coquille Indian Tribe’s chief, and Jen Procter Andrews has won a seat on the Tribal Council.

Procter Andrews defeated opponent Lauren Severson Morris 171-108, or 61 percent to 39 percent. Six write-in votes were cast. She will fill the Tribal Council representative No. 3 seat.

Tribal flags will wave downtown

The Coquille Indian Tribe's flag soon will join the U.S flag on the Coos Bay Boardwalk.

The Coos Bay City Council voted recently to honor the area's indigenous people by routinely flying the flags of the Coquille Tribe; the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians; and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians. All three have historical ties to the area.

A ceremony honoring the tribes will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, on the boardwalk.
