When Luke wrote his Gospel, it was originally part of a two book series. In fact, some scholars believe that Luke’s real intention was to write a trilogy of which the last volume was lost or never completed. In any event, Luke and Acts were broken up in the New Testament with Luke being placed with the other Gospels and Acts being placed as an introduction to the writings of Paul.
