Nursery Care & Sunday School

We are once agin offering nursery care for newborns through pre-kindergarteners, and Sunday School for those in Kindergarten through 5th Grade. Children unsure of where to go can gather at the base of the stairs in the Olney Gallery to be led to the Auditorium. Those in Sunday School will return to the Cathedral in time to receive communion.

Centennial History Book: Copies Now Available

You can now pick up a copy of the Trinity centennial book "Trinity Episcopal Cathedral: One of God's Works In Progress in Phoenix" at the desk in Olney Gallery. The book is available for a $15 donation.

Elsie Szecsy and Vince Anderson created this book from the Trinity Centennial Year timelines which outlined key events in the life of the Cathedral. There is a rich story around the history of the Cathedral and you'll enjoy pictures of events throughout the decades. This is a great way to explore the influences Trinity has had on the growth of Phoenix. It is also a superb tool for considering the community we might create as we head into the search for a new Dean.

Cash is welcome, though exact change is preferred as we have a limited ability to make change. We can also process your donation using a credit card.

The Commentary

Dear Trinity,

Though I don't officially begin with you until Monday, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself, and let you know a little about what is in the pipeline as we begin Lent together next week.

I've been in the Diocese of AZ for nearly 18 years - a long stretch at St. Barnabas in Scottsdale and then into Interim Ministry starting in 2020. You will be my 4th Interim assignment since then and I've enjoyed the variety and the particular challenges and opportunities that come with serving in a transitional season. I am excited to get to know you all: your hopes and dreams for the future of your community, and the future of your own discipleship as well.

Rev. Canon Erika Von Haaren begins

February 12

Our new Priest-in-Charge, the Reverend Canon Erika Von Haaren, will begin work at the Cathedral on February 12.

She is grounded in purposeful, strategic leadership practices and is steeped in best practices and creative collaboration in the areas of liturgy, pastoral care, newcomer ministry, staff development and family life.

Let us all mark the start of the Lenten season of penitence together.

Soup and Sit Lenten Series

Wednesdays in Lent starting February 21

5:30 - 7 p.m.

Spend a bit of time in contemplative prayer and discussion with Priest-in-Charge Erika Von Haaren on Wednesday evenings this Lent beginning February 21.

We will gather at Trinity at 5:30 for a simple meal of soup and bread and then sit with a piece of sacred text. Mother Erika will guide us in the process. This is an opportunity to make space in a busy life for Lent and to get to know our new Priest in Charge. The evening will end by 7 p.m.

Please email [email protected] OR use the sign up sheet in Olney Gallery on Sunday to let us know you will attend. If you need child care please let us know. An RSVP helps for planning purposes.

Invitation to Baptism

To be held on the Easter Vigil

March 30 at 7 p.m.

Have you been worshiping with Trinity and wish to deepen your connection with Jesus by being baptized? Let's talk!

We are beginning plans to baptize adults at our Easter Vigil service at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 30. (Since this is an evening service, it might be hard for infants or children to participate in the service. If you'd like infant/child baptism information, we can let you know upcoming dates.)

To learn more, please contact Mother Erika at [email protected] by March 1.

Interested in being confirmed in the Episcopal Church?

Confirmation Service:

May 11 | 10:00 a.m.

Cathedral

Each year the Cathedral hosts a confirmation service where worshippers from across the Episcopal Church in Arizona come to confirm, receive or reaffirm the covenant made at their baptism.

Confirmation is for those baptized in the Episcopal Church,

Reception is for those baptized in another Christian church who want to be officially a part of the Episcopal Church,

Reaffirmation is for those who've been confirmed in the Episcopal Church but are inspired to reaffirm the vows they previously made.

Trinity often participates with a cohort in this service, so if you're interested in more formal membership and participation in Trinity, please contact Mother Erika at [email protected] by March 10.

Love Remains: February Olney Gallery Exhibit

Kimberly Boege and Kristine Kollasch present Love Remains: An exploration of the heart, which features paintings, prints, and sculptures.

Boege specializes in reduction linocut prints. She explains, “In this process, the plate is cut away with each printed layer of color.” Botanical images are often the starting point for her work, and recently, Boege has explored “Heart” imagery. Boege is a member of the Arizona Print Group. Her work is part of the permanent collection at the University of Colorado and the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum.

Kollasch is a painter, sculptor, designer, and builder. Hearts have often been a theme in her work, exploring the heart in 2-dimensional paintings, collages, and sculpture. “The iconic shape is universal, yet the emotions and experiences of the heart are complex.” She established Fine Art & Creative Environments, LLC in 1997, encompassing Fine Art, Murals, and Themed Environments. Kollasch is well known for commissioned public art projects throughout Arizona.

Fellowship

Trinity Quilters Gathering

February 10 | 10:00 a.m.

Trinity Quilters use their talents to transform pieces of fabric into creative quilts. Once a quilt is finished complete with prayer ties, the congregation knots those ties while saying a prayer for the recipient.

These quilts are created to bring comfort to those in need. Please contact Rev. Omar Rodriguez at [email protected] if you or someone you love would be comforted by one of these hand-made quilts.

We invite anyone over 10 years of age who might want to learn more about quilting to join us. We meet from 10 am to 2 pm on two Saturdays a month as the Cathedral schedule permits. Our time together always includes a brown bag lunch.

Our other meetings through summer 2024 (subject to change) will be: February 17th, March 9th & 23rd, April 6th & 20th, May 18th & 25th, and June 8th & 22nd. These dates are subject to change depending on other events at the Cathedral.

Thank you to all who have helped provide healing gifts to members of the Trinity family, those they love, and those fleeing domestic abuse who are sheltered by The Sojourner Center.

Trinity Seniors Potluck and Bingo

For their February potluck gathering, Trinity Seniors will also be hosting a Bingo Extravaganza!

They will gather at Noon on February 13th and will go until about 2 p.m. or so. Please sign up by responding to the Evite or on the sheet at the desk in the Olney Gallery so organizers can know what food you are bringing.
