"Who am I to judge"

Vacations and summer are a gift from God to refresh our spirits, to rest our body and spirit, and to renew our lives so spoiled and damaged at times by the problems and agitation of every day.

In this Sunday's Gospel, Jesus tells another parable, this time of two sowers, one who sows good seed in his field and another, his enemy, who sows weeds.

What is the message to be drawn from this reading? This Gospel is not an encouraging passage. However, it can prompt us and help us to pause and reflect on our lives.

I invite you to take five minutes and think quietly about your life. Ask yourself: Am I sowing weeds or wheat in my daily life?

I sincerely doubt that any of us strive to produce a bad harvest. However, weeds have a way of invading areas of our lives without us noticing them right away.

Sometimes we are wheat, and sometimes we are weeds. We are so much like everyone else in the world that they can't tell the difference between the two of us. This reminds me of Pope Francis' most famous quote: "Who am I to judge". We can choose to do things our own way or we can follow God's rules. Only God knows his own" said St. Augustine.

That is why the Lord taught us in the parable of the wheat and the weeds to always respect the dignity of the other. No one should "uproot" the life of any human being just because he considers him to be a weed, while one proclaims himself to be "wheat".

Patience, tolerance and respect for all human beings, even if one does not share their way of life and even if one recognizes that they live in error, must be the general tonic of Christian life.

Once again: let us learn to look at the world, at groups, at people without prejudice, with the same kindness, understanding and tolerance that God shows to every man and every woman, regardless of their choices and their pace of life.

Many blessings,

Father Rafael Garcia

Food Pantry Ministry

These are difficult times and many struggle to make ends meet. When you come on Sundays, please consider bringing one or more items of canned or boxed food.  Items to consider include canned goods, peanut butter, packaged cereals, paper products, dish and laundry soaps, boxed dinners, toiletry items, and feminine hygiene products. Remember that we cannot accept expired food or items that need refrigeration.

Gift Card Ministry

The LGBTQ+ ministry has organized an on-going Gift Card collection drive to aid in the purchase of perishable food items for food pantry recipients. Our Sacristan - Roberto Soto - personally distributes these cards on a weekly basis. To continue to help this cause or if you or someone you know could benefit from this ministry, please contact Roberto Soto at:
