Pride and Freedom
from Father Jason
As Pride Month comes to end today, and as we prepare to celebrate Independence Day this weekend and next week, we pause to give thanks for all the blessings of this life. In our nation, in this great city of Miami, and in this Cathedral community, we must not take for granted or lose sight of the freedoms and privileges that we enjoy. While so many around the world live under the continual threat of war, injustice, and oppression, here we are free to worship God and free to be the people we were so wonderfully created to be. For these and for all our blessings, we say thanks be to God!
As Episcopalians, and as a fundamental part of our baptismal covenant, we respect the dignity of every human being. We pray, strive, and work for justice for all those who are oppressed and persecuted. And during Pride Month, we remember that countless members of the LGBTQ+ community around the world have been forced to live in hiding or forced to leave their homes in fear, as their lives threatened because of their identity.
Presiding Bishop Michael Curry recently preached about LGBTQ+ forced migration, saying: “This year, we are also mindful that LGBTQ people in many countries are in additional danger. They are often threatened because of who they are, persecuted, and fleeing persecution. The Episcopal Church has made a commitment through Episcopal Migration Ministries to do what we can for all refugees that we can help. But in particular, for those LGBTQ forced migrants who simply, like the rest of us, just want to live in love and peace…”

We join together with Christians across the world, as we pray:
O God, you call us to welcome all your children with equal care: empower us with your Spirit, that we may courageously and sacrificially open our hearts to those seeking a home with us; always give us passion to incarnate justice and blessing for people of every stripe, in particular our LGBTQ+ siblings who are in grave danger in their native lands. Help us to enfold them in the same loving embrace in which you enfold us and all your creation; through the great savior whose arms stretch to include all, Jesus the Christ. Amen.

Food Pantry Ministry
These are difficult times and many struggle to make ends meet. When you come on Sundays, please consider bringing one or more items of canned or boxed food. Items to consider include canned goods, peanut butter, packaged cereals, paper products, dish and laundry soaps, boxed dinners, toiletry items, and feminine hygiene products. Remember that we cannot accept expired food or items that need refrigeration.
Gift Card Ministry
The LGBTQ+ ministry has organized an on-going Gift Card collection drive to aid in the purchase of perishable food items for food pantry recipients. Our Sacristan - Roberto Soto - personally distributes these cards on a weekly basis. To continue to help this cause or if you or someone you know could benefit from this ministry, please contact Roberto Soto at:
