A New Organist and Choir Director for Trinity Cathedral | The Cathedral Chapter and I are very excited to announce that beginning later this year on All Saints' Sunday (November 3rd), we will welcome Mr. Andrew Cooper as our new Organist and Choir Director. Andrew will be moving to Miami later this summer from Connecticut, and in addition to his role at the Cathedral, he will be teaching music full-time in southern Miami. Andrew brings with him a wide range of musical achievements across several musical disciplines, and we are very fortunate to have him join us at Trinity Cathedral! | | Andrew Leslie Cooper is a British-American musician who has been active on both sides of the Atlantic as a conductor, music educator, organist, and countertenor. A lifelong church musician, this will be Andrew’s fourth appointment as an ecclesiastical music director. Most recently, he was the Director of Music Ministries & Organist at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Wilton, Connecticut for the past several years. He has also served parishes in Berea, Ohio and Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. As a countertenor, Andrew has sung with numerous top-tier ensembles. In the UK, he was a permanent member of The Gesualdo Six, an award-winning early-music group with whom he toured the UK and Europe and produced several commercial recordings.
Andrew was also a Gentleman of the Choir of HM Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace, where he sang in Henry VIII’s chapel for Sunday services and certain royal occasions. He also frequented services in the choirs of Canterbury Cathedral, Rochester Cathedral, and Westminster Cathedral. He has also performed with Tenebrae, the Voces8 Foundation Choir, TENET Vocal Artists, Bach Vespers NYC, and many other professional groups.
With music education at the heart of his career, Andrew has held teaching jobs at several schools. In the UK, he was on the music staff at the King’s School Rochester—the world’s second oldest school—and at The Frances Bardsley Academy for Girls in East London. In Connecticut, he taught music in the Wilton Public School system. Andrew holds a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey. There, he was the Assistant Conductor of the flagship ensemble, Westminster Choir. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Theory from Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music in Berea, Ohio. You can learn more about Andrew at www.andrewlesliecooper.com.

Our Gratitude for Dr. Bill Hopper
|
For the past several years, Dr. Bill Hopper has served in both a volunteer and paid capacity as our Organist and Choir Director. Bill will continue to play the organ for weddings, funerals, and other special events, and both Andrew and I are very excited about Bill's continued presence and work with the Cathedral music program in the future.
Bill has been a faithful parishioner of the Cathedral since 1980, and he was the part-time organist from 1990-2005. Bill's dedication and love for Trinity Cathedral have helped sustain our music program for decades, and we are extremely grateful. We will honor Dr. Hopper later this fall and thank him for his many years of service at Trinity - stay tuned for more details!

Food Pantry Ministry
These are difficult times and many struggle to make ends meet. When you come on Sundays, please consider bringing one or more items of canned or boxed food. Items to consider include canned goods, peanut butter, packaged cereals, paper products, bottled water, dish and laundry soaps, boxed dinners, toiletry items, and feminine hygiene products. Remember that we cannot accept expired food or items that need refrigeration.
Gift Card Ministry
The LGBTQ+ ministry has organized an on-going Gift Card collection drive to aid in the purchase of perishable food items for food pantry recipients. These cards are distributed on a weekly basis to families and individuals in need. To continue to help this cause or if you or someone you know could benefit from this ministry, please contact Roberto Soto at:

"Pews to Chairs" Project
There is still time to donate a chair!
For many decades now, pews have been replaced by chairs in countless cathedrals and churches across the Episcopal Church and the world with remarkable success. In many cases, it has allowed congregations to experience a transformation and rebirth of their communities. Stackable, multi-use chairs will give Trinity a fully flexible and multi-purpose space that functions not only for worship, but for a variety of ministry and community events. (See the above picture of Trinity's new cathedral chairs which arrived the week before Christmas.)
The success of Transforming Trinity and the Pews to Chairs project depends on the donation of chairs by cathedral parishioners, congregations, and individuals across The Episcopal Church in Southeast Florida and the wider Church. Chairs may be donated in honor of or in memory of a loved one or in honor of a specific church, congregation, or organization. Please consider donating one or more chairs!
To donate: Please download the chair donation form HERE, complete it, and make your check payable to Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. Please make sure to write “Pews to Chairs” in the memo line. Mail checks and forms to: Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 464 NE 16th Street, Miami, FL 33132.
Online donations can also be made on the Cathedral website (www.trinitymiami.org) under the “Giving” tab – please be sure to choose the “Pews to Chairs Campaign” on the dropdown menu to designate your donation.
Please reach out to Father Jason by email at frjason@trinitymiami.org if you have any questions or concerns. You can also find more details about the Pews to Chairs project HERE.

Does the good news ever seem too good?
| |
“Sin” can be a difficult word for Episcopalians (and, to be fair, everyone else). For any number of reasons, we shrink from using the word. Is it because it feels antiquated or judgmental? Is it because the word has been used to harm us or those we love?
