Reflecting God's Love: Mission-Focused Stewardship for 2024
This year Trinity Cathedral is taking a slightly different approach to Stewardship. To understand this new approach, it is important to take a step back to look at the meaning of Stewardship. God gives each one of us gifts. These gifts are traditionally categorized as time, talent, and treasure. These gifts have no intrinsic value. They are resources that create value when they are used. The wise use of these resources is what Stewardship is all about.
During typical stewardship campaigns, the focus tends to be on tangible things such as buildings, clergy and staff, programs, and other expenses such as utilities. We are asked to use our resources (time, talent, and treasure) to “fund” buildings, staff, and programs. But, like our individual resources, these items, what we call corporate or collective resources, do not have any intrinsic value until they are used to pursue our vision to transform our own and others' lives by intentionally living the Gospel.
This year Trinity Cathedral will have a mission focused stewardship campaign. This shifts the focus from WHAT we will do to WHY we do things. The primary advantage of mission focused stewardship is its natural focus on abundance. How many ministries can we support? The only limit is how much resource we are willing to devote to them. If we believe that God’s love for us is infinite, then surely God’s gifts are also infinite. When we transcend the finite thinking of buildings, staff, programs, and expenses, we open ourselves up for the infinite possibilities that exist in the Kingdom of God. It is an invitation to think creatively about how we can use God’s gifts more effectively to reflect God’s love into the world.

Our Mission of Building Our Community
The earliest concepts of “church” were not based on a building, but rather on a community. Acts 2:44 says “All believers were together and had everything in common.” We are called to community. Trinity Cathedral has a unique place in community. As the seat of the diocese, we have a role in the broader Episcopal community across Southeast Florida, and our location in the heart of Miami provides a unique opportunity to create community in this city. Creating community means getting out and inviting in. It means creating opportunities for connection. It means showing genuine hospitality.
How can we broaden our community? How can we be a community center? How can we use our diversity as a strength in building community?
Stay tuned for more details about Mission-Focused Stewardship for 2024 in the coming weeks!

The Bishop is asking for prayers for the peoples of the Holy Land and for an immediate end to violence | |
O God, the Source of Life, and Creator of Peace, help your children, anguished and confused, to understand the futility of hatred and violence; and grant us the ability to stretch across political, religious and national boundaries so we may confront horror and fear by continuing together in the search for justice, peace and truth. Remember those now caught up in armed conflict in Israel and Palestine. Give rest to the dead; succour to the wounded; strength to those held hostage; and energy to those with the power to bring the violence to a swift end. With every fiber of our being we beg you, O God, to help us not to fail nor falter in the work of peace, justice and reconciliation. Amen.

"Pews to Chairs" Project
For many decades now, pews have been replaced by chairs in countless cathedrals and churches across the Episcopal Church and the world with remarkable success. In many cases, it has allowed congregations to experience a transformation and rebirth of their communities. Stackable, multi-use chairs will give Trinity a fully flexible and multi-purpose space that functions not only for worship, but for a variety of ministry and community events. (See the above picture of Chester Cathedral, UK.)
The success of Transforming Trinity and the Pews to Chairs project depends on the donation of chairs by cathedral parishioners, congregations, and individuals across The Episcopal Church in Southeast Florida and the wider Church. Chairs may be donated in honor of / in memory of a loved one or in honor of a specific church, congregation, or organization. Please consider donating one or more chairs!
To donate: Please download the chair donation form HERE, complete it, and make your check payable to Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. Please make sure to write “Pews to Chairs” in the memo line. Mail checks and forms to: Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 464 NE 16th Street, Miami, FL 33132.
Online donations can also be made on the Cathedral website (www.trinitymiami.org) under the “Giving” tab – please be sure to choose the “Pews to Chairs Campaign” on the dropdown menu to designate your donation.
Please reach out to Father Jason by email at frjason@trinitymiami.org if you have any questions or concerns. You can also find more details about the Pews to Chairs project HERE.

We continue to pray for our Presiding Bishop, the Most Reverend Michael Curry, who was hospitalized again recently. He is now home from the hospital and is receiving physical and occupational therapy. An update on his health can be found here.
O God, the strength of the weak and the comfort of sufferers: Mercifully accept our prayers, and grant to your servant Michael the help of your power, that his sickness may be turned into health, and our sorrow into joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
