The Heartbreak of War in the Holy Land |  | |
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May they prosper all who love you. Peace be within your walls, and security within your towers.’ For the sake of my relatives and friends I will say, ‘Peace be within you.’ For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your good. (Psalm 122:6-9)
Our hearts continue to break as we see and hear the constant news of the savage war in the Holy Land. More and more innocent people in Israel and in Palestine are injured and killed each day as the violence continues. The images are extremely difficult to see, and so many of us feel helpless, angry, and distraught. As Christians and as Episcopalians, we pray without ceasing for all those who are injured and missing and for the first responders who care and search for them. We pray without ceasing for all those who have been displaced from their homes and for those who live in constant terror each day. We pray without ceasing for all those who have died, and we mourn with their families and friends. We pray without ceasing for an immediate end to the violence.
The Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East has been at the forefront of prayer and action since the war broke out on October 7th. Archbishop Hosam Naoum, together with ecumenical and inter-faith leaders from across the Middle East, has issued stern statements of condemnation of war since the conflict began. St. George’s Episcopal Cathedral, St. George's College, and the diocesan offices are located in North Jerusalem in the predominantly Palestinian neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah, and the relationship with both the Jewish and Muslim communities there has been strong for decades. Just this past week, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, traveled to St. George’s, and both leaders issued a joint appeal for peace. The full appeal document can be found HERE.
The Episcopal Church stands with our Jewish, Muslim, and Christian siblings in the Holy Land as they all struggle desperately to find a renewed path to peace. The road ahead is extremely difficult for them, and our sustained prayer and support are crucial. Episcopal Relief and Development has set up a relief fund HERE.
Let us pray without ceasing for peace.

The Bishop will celebrate the funeral Mass for the Reverend Jack Stanton at Trinity Cathedral on Saturday, November 4th at 3:00 p.m.
All are welcome. Clergy are invited to vest in alb, white stole (and chasuble if desired).
Please continue to keep Jack, his wife Nora, and family and friends in your prayers.
Rest eternal grant to him, O Lord.
And let light perpetual shine upon him.

On All Saints' Sunday, November 5th, the Right Reverend Greg Rickel, Assisting Bishop of our diocese, will join us as guest preacher at our 10:00 service of Choral Eucharist.
This is Bishop Rickel's first official visit to the Cathedral, and we are very excited to welcome him! Join us for this beautiful celebration of All Saints' Sunday, including special music and a special coffee hour.

"Pews to Chairs" Project
For many decades now, pews have been replaced by chairs in countless cathedrals and churches across the Episcopal Church and the world with remarkable success. In many cases, it has allowed congregations to experience a transformation and rebirth of their communities. Stackable, multi-use chairs will give Trinity a fully flexible and multi-purpose space that functions not only for worship, but for a variety of ministry and community events. The success of Transforming Trinity and the Pews to Chairs project depends on the donation of chairs by cathedral parishioners, congregations, and individuals across The Episcopal Church in Southeast Florida and the wider Church. Chairs may be donated in honor of / in memory of a loved one or in honor of a specific church, congregation, or organization. Please consider donating one or more chairs!
To donate: Please download the chair donation form HERE, complete it, and make your check payable to Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. Please make sure to write “Pews to Chairs” in the memo line. Mail checks and forms to: Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 464 NE 16th Street, Miami, FL 33132.
Online donations can also be made on the Cathedral website (www.trinitymiami.org) under the “Giving” tab – please be sure to choose the “Pews to Chairs Campaign” on the dropdown menu to designate your donation.

Yoga is back! Starting September 25th at 6.15pm, join us for movement, breath work, and guided meditation in the Cathedral every Monday (except holidays). Experience the blissful union of mind, body, and spirit. Combining the ancient Vedic practice of yoga with the intimacy of our sacred Christian space, Simon Strong from Tiger Eye Healing will lead yoga sessions offering a harmonious blend of physical movement, breathing techniques, sound bath and meditation exercises - to promote relaxation, overall well-being, and inner revelation!

Food Pantry Ministry
These are difficult times and many struggle to make ends meet. When you come on Sundays, please consider bringing one or more items of canned or boxed food. Items to consider include canned goods, peanut butter, packaged cereals, paper products, bottled water, dish and laundry soaps, boxed dinners, toiletry items, and feminine hygiene products. Remember that we cannot accept expired food or items that need refrigeration.
Gift Card Ministry
The LGBTQ+ ministry has organized an on-going Gift Card collection drive to aid in the purchase of perishable food items for food pantry recipients. These cards are distributed on a weekly basis to families and individuals in need.
