Christmas Lessons & Carols this Sunday!
|
This coming Sunday evening at 5:30, Trinity Cathedral has the distinct privilege of hosting one of the most beautiful expressions of worship in our Anglican-Episcopal tradition: A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. It is a glorious celebration of scripture, music, and prayer that transports us to a different time and place.
Our own Cathedral service of Lessons and Carols is an adaptation of A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols which was first held at King's College, Cambridge on Christmas Eve in 1918. And since 1928, the service has been broadcast worldwide every Christmas Eve on BBC Radio, captivating millions of listeners from across the globe. For so many individuals and families around the world, the service has become an important part of their personal Christmas tradition as they listen in their own homes.
| Album Cover: 100 Years of Nine Lessons & Carol | |
From the King's College website: "The broadcasts, too, have become part of Christmas for many far from Cambridge. One correspondent wrote of hearing the service in a tent on the foothills of Everest; another, in the desert. Many listen at home, some are busy with their own preparations for Christmas; others make time to sit down, either alone or with friends, and join in with the congregational carols, perhaps having previously printed out the order of service." Read more about the Choir of King's College HERE.
The Cathedral Choir and the Anglican Chorale of Southeast Florida, directed by Mr. Christopher Harrell, have prepared an impressive repertoire of Advent and Christmas hymns, anthems, and carols from these and other composers: Michael Praetorius, David Willcocks, H. Walford Davies, Patrick Hadley, Richard Proulx, and John Rutter.
Please join us this Sunday at 5:30 pm for this wonderful service of beauty and hope. As we prepare to move from Advent into Christmas next week, this is one service you won't want to miss!

Giving to Trinity Cathedral in REALM
We are in the process of migrating the recording and tracking of all donations to REALM. This started with the 2025 pledge campaign, and beginning in January, all donations will be recorded in REALM.
- Part of this change is a new online giving form that is fully integrated with REALM. This form is easily accessible from the "Realm Connect" app by clicking on Giving and is accessible from the Internet by going to https://onrealm.org/TrinityCathedra81757/give/now.
- One benefit of the new system is that any gifts you make through the app or online after logging into REALM are automatically assigned to your personal giving record. You can access your personal giving record at any time, and any gifts to Pledge/regular Offerings will be automatically applied to your pledge.
- You can make both one-time and recurring gifts. Plus, you will be given the opportunity to set up automatic payments to fulfill your pledge. You also have the option of securely saving your payment information to make future gifts even easier. The system has all the modern security safeguards to ensure your data is safe.
- As you may know, the Cathedral is charged a processing fee for online payments. This fee is significantly less if you provide your bank details rather than using a credit or debit card. In either case, you will have the opportunity to help defray these costs by adding a small amount to your gift.
- In the future, we will have additional forms for special giving opportunities and for any paid events at the Cathedral. The old online giving form will be slowly retired as recurring gifts are migrated to the new system.
We are excited about the transparency and flexibility this new system provides for those who choose to give online. Click this link for a short video on giving in REALM. If you choose to give by check or using an envelope, your gifts will still be entered into Realm and you will be able to see them through the app.
Please contact me or Elizabeth Kretsch if you have any questions. As a reminder, the record of gifts made in 2024 and prior will be migrated to Realm sometime in early 2025 so you will soon be able to see your full giving history.
Sincerely,
Steve Kretsch
Cathedral Treasurer

Mission-Focused Stewardship for 2025
Please pledge by December 1st! Our annual stewardship campaign in support of the mission and ministries of the Cathedral is ongoing. We have a goal to raise $400,000 in pledges for 2025 so we can continue to grow in faith and reflect God’s grace and love in the heart of Miami.
Next year, we will celebrate the centennial of our beautiful cathedral building. We have amazing plans to mark this historic occasion in 2025 for both our church and the wider community. These first 100 years would not have been possible without the generations of Miamians who built and maintained this building as a living symbol of Christian hope and God's love in Downtown Miami. Now, it is our turn to continue the tradition and lay the foundation for the next 100 years as the spiritual center of Miami.
Please pledge generously to support the vital mission of this Cathedral community. The printable 2025 Stewardship pledge form can be downloaded here.
New this year, you can now make your 2025 Pledge online using our new, secure application called REALM!

"Pews to Chairs" Project
There is still time to donate a chair!
For many decades now, pews have been replaced by chairs in countless cathedrals and churches across the Episcopal Church and the world with remarkable success. In many cases, it has allowed congregations to experience a transformation and rebirth of their communities. Stackable, multi-use chairs will give Trinity a fully flexible and multi-purpose space that functions not only for worship, but for a variety of ministry and community events. (See the above picture of Trinity's new cathedral chairs which arrived the week before Christmas.)
The success of Transforming Trinity and the Pews to Chairs project depends on the donation of chairs by cathedral parishioners, congregations, and individuals across The Episcopal Church in Southeast Florida and the wider Church. Chairs may be donated in honor of or in memory of a loved one or in honor of a specific church, congregation, or organization. Please consider donating one or more chairs!
To donate: Please download the chair donation form HERE, complete it, and make your check payable to Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. Please make sure to write “Pews to Chairs” in the memo line. Mail checks and forms to: Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 464 NE 16th Street, Miami, FL 33132.
Online donations can also be made on the Cathedral website (www.trinitymiami.org) under the “Giving” tab – please be sure to choose the “Pews to Chairs Campaign” on the dropdown menu to designate your donation.
Please reach out to Father Jason by email at frjason@trinitymiami.org if you have any questions or concerns. You can also find more details about the Pews to Chairs project HERE.

The Third Sunday of Advent
|
God is not out to get us. God is not waiting for us to trip up on some silly sin and then cackling with glee and hanging us over an abyss.
| |
Today is the third Sunday of Advent, traditionally known as Gaudete Sunday. Gaudete is the Latin word meaning “rejoice,” and the origin of this name for the third Sunday of Advent comes from the beginning of our reading from Philippians today: “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.”

As we continue our Advent walk, we invite you to see the Way of Love as a journey that includes the community. The witness of Zechariah and Elizabeth who bring infant John to the Temple to be circumcised reminds us of the importance of our faith community to sustaining the Way of Love. Just as the community did for John’s family, communities provide a place for discernment, sometimes challenging us and other times affirming us. Communities celebrate and mark important moments along the journey.

This past weekend was another very busy one at the Cathedral!
On Saturday we hosted Kate Eaton, Mishkah, and an Advent mini-retreat.

Last night we were honored to host, once again this year, the annual Holiday Concert of the New World School of the Arts, in memory of Dr. Alan Denning.
